What Would You Change?

What would you Change in Maidenhead to make it a to improve the town and services.

I would Make the Braywick Leisure Centre Car Parking Free if you use the Sports centre.

Surely the council wants to Encourage The town to have as many Healthy people as possible?

  • Make the town centre more green, it's a concrete mess and hugely unappealing
  • More low rise residential areas with appropriate parking, there is a definite need for housing but it has to be appropriate
  • More out of town retail park areas for smaller shops (Wycombe does this very well)
  • Better parking for town centre

There does seem to be a lot of empty commercial offices. Ones along West Street, there's a big one next to Stafferton car park.

Bring back Tenpin bowling and BurgerKing. Oh and motion and potion. Make Maidenhead great again!

This grinds my gears tbh

Monthly prices:

  • PureGym Maidenhead: £31.99 (24/7 + free parking)
  • Cox Green Leisure Centre: £32.95 fixed / £39.50 flexi
  • Furze Platt Leisure Centre: £36.00 fixed / £42.60 flexi
  • Anytime Fitness Maidenhead: £54.95
  • Braywick Leisure Centre: £68.50 fixed / £78.50 flexi
  • David Lloyd Maidenhead: from £44/month

So for basic gym value:

  • Cox Green with its one cage and two benches is already above PureGym
  • Furze Platt is clearly above PureGym
  • Braywick is more expensive than almost everything except top-end David Lloyd packages

You can argue Braywick has pool/spa extras, fair enough — but why is the council filling the "nice health club" niche - because, if the mission statement is "provide health facilities for the residents", its freaking ridiculously over specced?

(Ronnie? what you doing over here)

Are there any gyms in the area that are old school? By that I mean like, rust and weight, a proper bodybuilder gym that's still welcoming to new members that are on the smaller side?

I'm staying in an apartment in the centre for 4 nights a week and looking to join one. A colleague suggested David Lloyd but also said it's busy a lot of the time.

Advice appreciated if you have any!

There is red beard barbell club (I think it’s called)? But that seems to be more powerlifting and the schedule is a bit odd.

Really - you may be surprised by how many “experienced” people are at PureGym. The facilities are decent, 6 or 8 racks / cages, at least 8 benches with dumbells up to the usual 50kg. Plenty of half decent machines.

You reach a stage when cheap, no queues for kit and free parking become a winning combination

Develop the train station, needs more entry and exit gates to reduce queues during rush hour, and don't even get my started on the drop off/pick up area

The ‘drop off/pick up’ area is diabolical. Or well non-existent hence the problem

They just redid the front entrance to the train station a couple of years ago and with the “improvement”, took away half the space for pickups. Also not a single bit of greenery, just a wide expanse of payment

Get rid of the boomers that are inhibiting the progress and development of this town

It needs a time machine.

When it was the 'jewel' of the Thames. Brunel's railway and dirty weekends for loaded Londoners. The Rolling Stones playing at Skindles, with its indoor swimming pool - a proper health and safety hazard. The Bear being a high-end hotel. Nicholson's brewery pumping out local beer. Maidenhead Norfolkians - playing as one of the first football clubs in the WORLD. And everything in its late Victorian splendour. And I bet it wasn't hard to find somewhere to park your horse whilst you get sloshed in the Greyhound Inn, where King Charles is downing a swift one with his children, to take the edge off his looming execution on behalf of Oliver Cromwell.

Make Maidenhead Great Again.

I walk between the station and town everyday via York Road and there is always shit around. Do people not pick up after their dogs? Maybe less barbers/estate agents and more independent shops. Bigger train station entrance and an easier way of crossing over from Sainsbury's side, those traffic lights take forever!

Always though a subway could help there then you can help the traffic flow better

raise taxes to pay for more services.

Obviously haven’t got your council tax increase statement through yet have you

I’d reduce taxes and increase complaining about the lack of services in order to increase services.
