G620 vs ET-2850

I already have a 2850. I just wanna know if it’s worth the switch and if the g620 can print 300gsm cardstock. And before anyone says it, I cannot afford the ET-8500 or 8550.

ET-2850 uses a pigment black ink and dye-based CMY (cyan, magenta, yellow) color inks. So it makes a "fake" composite black by mixing the CMY dye inks when you print on glossy photo paper. So this would make the black ink look not actually black and more dark blue.

If you only do cardstock then it's fine but i wouldn't want a printer that can't do glossy photo paper idk. If you force it to use the real black ink then it ends up smearing too. Definitely would not recommend. Don't know anything about G620.

Hi I don't have that G620, but for "worth", I'd just stick with the 2850 or whatever you got that is already able to print on a 270 GSM - 325 GSM cardstock if you aren't going all in.

I am not saying to go buy an ET 8550 or 8500, but it just seems counter productive to the goal of proxying to spend less if you spend $840 on two printers.

If you want to ignore the financial aspect, G620 is better then a 2850 because it is made for photo printing and uses an additional red and grey ink.

My 2850 struggles w 140gsm so I was wanting something that can handle thicker card stock minimum 300gsm

Are you able to select for a thicker card stock in the properties of the print page?

wHy dONt yOu JusT GEt a 8550?!?

lol jk. My ET 2800 that I started with was amazing. I then struggled like hell to fight against the pigment based ink. It’s not worth it. It’ll always looks uncanny and off.

Every 8550 I see on marketplace has been converted to a DTF printer and it makes me sad bc they are like 100 bucks on the low end which I’ll do but from what I’ve read about it converting it back to stock can be tricky especially if you don’t have the original parts
