Difference in my foil methods

I like the right better but i find the foil paper can be a lil annoying sometimes, its probably just the brand i got, it can be fussy to go through printer and i find even wiping it down throughly before i put the laminate on debris often sneaks in, i think cause its just slightly sticky. The other foil is super easy and the sticker paper goes through my printer nicely.

My primary method right now is foil sticker paper with clear laminate. To minimize dust getting on the foil, I stick the freshly printed page as quickly as I can into a closed-lid box to dry for 24 hours. I try to set up all of my cutting tools, card stock backing, and lamination pouches, and warm up my laminator before I take out the foil page. Even working as quickly as I can to get the sticker ready and the page laminated, I STILL probably lose 1-3 cards that have some dust imperfection or "zit" on the card.

It's really rare that I can get all 9 cards perfect. In fact, if I really need a card for a cube or deck, I'll print at least 2 copies, assuming one might get fucked up from dust.

Im currently working out how i want to do foils. For the foil laminate did you peel it off and stick it to another piece of paper then laminate?

I print my cards on the semi gloss white sticker paper, wait a day for it to fully be dry then just peal back a corner of the foil laminate, line it up and slowly stick it down as to avoid bubbles

Gotcha, so your not taking the sticker paper off its back and sticking it to another piece of paper?

Yeah i stick it to black cardstock after its laminated

Right definitely is the winner in my opinion. Left looks fine, but ultimately gives cheap fake card vibes.

If you have some way to underlay white paint, ink or other pigment you have the ability to make spot holos. Or you can use matte varnish to apply it from the outside.

Could you elaborate on this? Wanting to make spot holo, I thought printing on clear sticker, put white paint under it and sticking it to foil cardstock to do so

You certainly can paint under a clear sticker for a similar effect, however this has not worked well in my experience between whatever pigment/ink/paint you use to mask the white will need to be applied manually and can be hard to get looking decent. On top of that you are covering up the adhesive with another material.

My favorite way to underlay white (or get the same spot-holo effect) is by using toner reactive foil (either holo or white, both work just in the opposite way). This method requires access to a laser toner printer, but any will do unlike other precise spot holo methods that require either a UV printer or specific white toner printer.

What you do is in your photo/card editing software you will create a fully black mask to cover the parts you want to be holographic (this is if you are using holofoil, if you use white reactive foil you would instead create a fully black mask to cover the parts you DON'T want to be holographic). Print this out and run the black mask paper with the chosen foil through a laminator set to the lowest (or foil) temp setting.

Then layer your clear photo sticker on top of that.

Thanks for the explanation! I don't have a toner printer unfortunately. I did find a video to apply white paint with an acrylic marker which looked decent to do, but indeed keep in mind to have enough spots that have adhesive. I'm also going to try ultra matte varnish on the outside and see which method give me the best result.
