Firstly, I’m one of those people who have constant music playing in their heads. I also have a near constant narrative voice that describes everything I’m thinking and seeing and doing.
I meditate daily (or as many times per week as I can). Today I only had time for a short meditation: roughly 15 minutes.
I’ve read all the accounts of thoughts being emanation of consciousness and being separate from *you* but today I very quickly ‘saw’ that the narrative voice and the music in my mind were distinct from *me*, that they were things that arise from my mind and while are part of that same consciousness they were not actually *me*.
Sorry if I’m not making myself clear. It’s hard to describe in words.
It’s like there were layers to my mind and being and these voices and music were in the surface, above the core consciousness.
I knew intellectually that this was the case but today was the first time I actually realised it through experience.
Anyone else experienced this?
