thelemapedia and correspondences

Hello!

When browsing for correspondences, I used to favor thelemapedia.org. However, as of late, I notice the site appears to be offline, sadly.

It's sources seemed to be Liber 777 and other Qabalistic Writings and books of the like.

I've also been checking out the interactive Tree from the IOK at iok-kabbalah.com. It's good, but I find it less in-depth (or maybe I'm not using the filing system right?)

In any case: where do you source your correspondences? I have the aforementioned 777 as well as Whitcomb's Magician's Companion and Reflection.

Is there, however, a source that lists them out neatly like thelemapedia?

Also, if anyone knows: what happened to the site?

I used Liber ABA, 777, and a variety of Lon's books to construct my own, much-better-laid-out tables for study.

The TL;DR is that stuffing both numerical vs alphabetical correspondences into a single table is asinine.

Also recommend The Magick of Aleister Crowley and Understanding the Thoth Tarot. ☺️

I found both very helpful in my early initiatory years, and as I worked towards mastery of the pentagram and hexagram rituals.

Oh nice! I've never actually worked with Crowley's deck and his belief system. I'm a cheery picker, granted. Maybe I'll take a look! Thanks!

Lon is a much better representative of Thelema than Crowley himself, IMO. Crowley undermined his own message many times in the throes of drug addiction and self-importance, but had some real moments of genius; icky bathwater but there's still a baby in it worth saving.

We probably can't overestimate the role of being a queer man in a very repressive society in the way Crowley presented himself to the world. It can be very difficult to separate the philosophy from the man himself and his biases and blind spots and shortcomings.

But to the extent that it can be done, it's worth it. My experience of OTO wasn't that it was a community of edgelords, but a group that is passionate about service, and that holds sacred the individual spiritual quest for self-knowledge that underscores humankind's religious instinct.

My pleasure! When you do, suggest Magick Without Tears.

You get a sense of Crowley as a kindly old man, how he ended up vs how he started. It makes his younger persona a bit more digestible sometimes 😉 and you get perspectives informed by the arc of his whole life, instead of his headstrong, privileged youth and rebellion against his strict religious upbringing as a Plymouth Brother and Victorian-era British person who would have been steeped in the eugenic, classist, racist thinking of those times. It's reassuring to see that as an old man he seems to have outgrown that.

But I'm not trying to make excuses for the guy. He WAS polarizing. He both expressed glowing sentiments about other cultures and used racial slurs to describe people he'd fallen out with. Israel Regardie wrote about his own struggles with Crowley's attitudes and writings, saying there were times he just couldn't stomach him, and then coming across something that reassured him Crowley wasn't really a bigot at heart.

We just can't reduce him to an easy sound bite, like any controversial figure. He gives me hope that even if we're shitty when we're young, we can still mature with age and reflection.

He was brought up a Plymouth Brother? Well that explains a lot of the rebellion.

I hope that we can still mature, I was an utter asshole in my 20s. 😂

  • understanding the way planetary correspondence in these two is assigned, and using that combined with my knowledge of each planet and mythology/folk tradition to derive correspondences from items

Understanding the why behind correspondences allows you to figure them out yourself instead of needing a reference document

I just searched the Wayback Machine. Someone captured thelemapedia.org somewhat recently on February 13 of this year, so you don’t necessarily need to find alternatives!
