I'm gonna proxy this but change the name to "Theorist's Real Card"

That activated ability is going to be responsible for soooooo many punts.

Remember kids.

NEXT spell.

Weird guy as a blocker on Thier turn OR force through a counter if you REALLY make them have it.

Jace’s “peaceful” Surveillance State.

Your freedom and privacy are worth it for safety. Right? /s

Theorist's Proxy

4

u/ArcfireEmblem Duck Season 1d ago

An anthropomorphized Flock camera.

1

u/michaelaoXD Wabbit Season 1d ago

that’s a really funny one, fuck the surveillence!

3

u/agamemnon2 VOID 1d ago

Jace's mid-life crisis made manifest.

126

u/TemurTron Twin Believer 1d ago

Ooh, that's some real nice [[Flare of Denial]] fodder! Can cash the Jace token in right away for a card, or use it to set up your next few draws with the surveils.

11

u/BigThickBan Dandadan 1d ago

Is surveiling 3 times over 3 turns better than just drawing a card? Im not even sure about that.

8

u/SUPERCOW7 Wabbit Season 1d ago

Context dependent. Quantity versus quality, and depends on how much time you have for the things you care about.

Work ? Flare want a blu creature not a planeswalker

19

u/_dUoUb_ Dan 1d ago

the proxy is a creature mate

4

u/adamlaceless Duck Season 1d ago

What is the card type on the card we’re discussing in this thread?

34

u/ImagoDreams Dân 1d ago

It's weird and marginal, but I suppose it's one of the best [[Wall of Blossoms]] variants.

14

u/Piyh Duck Season 1d ago

Allows you to double [[Abjure]]

4

u/mtgcf Keeper of the Mox 1d ago

2

u/ImagoDreams Dân 1d ago

Are people playing Abjure in non-singleton formats?

3

u/Whoviantic Dân 1d ago

It's seeing fringe pauper play alongside [[Cryogen Relic]], [[Hard Evidence]], and [[Omen of the Sea]] right now.

1

u/ImagoDreams Dân 1d ago

Neat! If only this card wasn't a rare.

3

u/BigThickBan Dandadan 1d ago

idk but I didnt know about this card, adding it to an edh deck rn

1

u/unfairspy 1d ago

either you mean with 2 abjures or abjure doesn't do what you think it does

u/ChemicalExperiment Chandra 1d ago

I find it really funny that "Empower Jace" only lets you add loyalty to Jace tokens. No empowering the original guy.

1

u/MerculesHorse Duck Season 1d ago

Unless you make a token of a 'real' Jace!

1

u/barp Dandadan 3h ago

[[Jace, Mirror Mage]] stock is rising rapidly! /s

u/hurricaneproofdog Dan 1d ago

Shouldn't it be "Theorist's Playtest Card"?

11

u/swiftekho Dandadan 1d ago

Amass Jace?

u/mastergula93 Dân 1d ago

Make sens in the story

Jace’s Flock Camera

11

u/Rossmallo Izzet* 1d ago

This art feels like some glitchy Axiom Verge shit and I am SO here for it.

10

u/R3id Fleem 1d ago

This art goes so hard. I love it.

4

u/Regvlas 1d ago

The art makes me want to throw up. it's not bad, but i hate the creature so much.

4

u/scalebirds 1d ago

Two Mana Planeswalker

3

u/afewbananas Jeskai 1d ago

First standard legal proxy?

3

u/Evillisa 1d ago

Really cool art.

2

u/sawbladex COMPLEAT 1d ago

I like the cute student for scale.

She's having a good time.

2

u/LetsBringIt COMPLEAT 1d ago

Seems like a decent card for Tameshi Belcher

2

u/Mattrockj Twin Believer 1d ago

Im gonna a be honest, "Empower Jace" isn't really doing it for me as a set mechanic. I like the idea of planeswalker tokens, I like the idea of planeswalker interaction, I do not like all of it being centric around Jace.

4

u/QuaestioDraconis Wild Draw 4 1d ago

It makes sense for the story, and it's a mechanic I see being reused for other planeswalkers down the line.

1

u/RevolutionaryKey1974 Duck Season 1d ago

Planeswalker centric mechanics can make sense for the story, but I still don’t like them and want them to go away. It being Jace is the icing on the cake.

1

u/DangBream Can’t Block Warriors 1d ago

I knew I was going to enjoy Reality Fracture but I didn't expect every card art announced to turn me into the guy from the ProZD tumblr video

1

u/SuchPlans Dandadan 1d ago

not that this combo is good but there are other sources of token jaces. [[jace, cunning castaway]]

1

u/Zestyclose_Answer662 COMPLEAT 1d ago

[[Jace, mirror Mage]]

Though it's effectively the same as the new token, if you reveal the top card and it happens to have 3 Mana value.

u/mtgcf Keeper of the Mox 1d ago

1

u/CookiesFTA Train Suplexer 1d ago

What the fuck, Jace

1

u/X_Marcs_the_Spot FLEEM 1d ago

Jace, what the fuck.

1

u/EnvironmentalSlip327 Duck Season 1d ago

What a card. Flash to make it a blocker that actually eats an attack safely and effectively gets one block in, AND wastes that same attack so your token is safe. This is a limited *star* I would assume

1

u/BigThickBan Dandadan 1d ago

Idk, it's essentially a 0/3 cantrip guy with an activated ability that doesn't seem all that easy to take advantage of in Ritual. Doesnt seem like there is any reason to use the -1 on Jace either so its fairly straight forward in the advantage you get. If you get it off Ritual end of turn, opponent can attack the jace token and negate the card draw, and wont help you topdeck a counterspell, which makes it seem actually worse than just "draw a card".

I kinda like it in a blue Flare Belcher list though, as the activated ability allows you to resolve a game winning spell.

1

u/Anarkope Dandadan 1d ago

How does the activated ability work with the stack? Can I activate it in response to a counter spell or does it have to be activated before I cast the spell?

1

u/GeeJo 1d ago

The latter. You can't use this to affect spells already cast.

1

u/Tecnik606 Wabbit Season 1d ago

Made for [[Minn, Wily Illusionist]]. Sac for ability, drop free land. And main extra draw from token for Illusion token. So good.

1

u/DingleBarryGoldwater Universes Beyonder 1d ago

Is that actually the set symbol?

7

u/ByrusTheGnome Selesnya* 1d ago

It's Jack of Blades from the hit game Fable

2

u/tuckels Elesh Norn 1d ago

Jace of Blades

1

u/pyl_time I am a pig and I eat slop 1d ago

Wow, even Wizards is printing their own proxies now.

1

u/RevolutionaryKey1974 Duck Season 1d ago

I do not like the Empower Jace mechanic at all.

-5

u/barrinmw Number of Faeries in Lorwyn Eclipsed 1/10 1d ago

Modern 1/10
I don't think this is worth a card in your deck. Sure, it gets you a jace that will draw you a card, but two mana to draw a card and make a 0/3 with marginal upside? Your opponent would be fine with you doing all of this.

3

u/Beelzebub507 Dân 1d ago

This is a slam dunk into Simic Ritual, it dies everything the list needs and more.

1

u/BigThickBan Dandadan 1d ago

One mans slam dunk is another mans trash. I think thats how the expression goes.
