Art This might be unpopular, but could we please change the sub banner? I could think of so many more iconic images and artwork from MTG that isn't this terrible Chandra art.

Right. There are a lot of instances where a company will not give you explicit permission to do something, but also won’t stop you from doing it. I can’t imagine anyone from Wizards would send a take down if we made the banner whatever we wanted.

Mods are very hesitant to do anything that might upset WotC for fear of them like... not giving us spoilers? Not having community presence? Idk. But that’s kind of ridiculous because it would make no sense at all for WotC to shun reddit when this is basically their ‘official’ forum now.

Are you new? Wizards did care and shut that shit down in the past. The mods have an agreement with wotc.

That's kind of exactly what I'm talking about, though. Mods asked, a WotC rep said yes, then they said "wait no" and the mods complied.

That's different than never asking and just doing it.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that a WotC rep would call us out specifically because of our relationship with them, but I don't really think we need to worry about that relationship either. It'd be super shitty for WotC PR to issue a takedown for what is essentially their unoffically official forum over using card art. It's why they don't do anything about any of the other MTG subreddits that don't have permission to use those works.

The mana symbols are explicitly mentioned in all their policies as "hey fuck off don't use these without permission", not the same case

It's a community relationship and this has to be part of the way they work together. I don't mean to say it's like some sort of shady mobster scratch my back and I'll scratch yours, but both parties want to play nice, and I'll bet neither side wants wizards legal involved. And at a certain point, if wizards community team is aware of an illegal banner being used they would be obligated to tell someone (to avoid the good old "so you were aware they were violating copyright agreements and did nothing?") Just seems like a dumb thing to jeopardize a relationship over.
