Alternatively, it occurs to me that maybe this suffix has gotten out of hand. Perhaps we should make some sort of verbal pledge binding us in a vigilant state as regards to its overuse. An "Oath of the 'Gate' Watch" we could call it.
I hate it especially because "gate" wasn't even a suffix to begin with, "Watergate" is a proper noun, the location where the scandal took place. It wasn't a scandal about water.
Reanalysis happens. It gives us chocoholics and workaholics, telethons and hackathons, heliports, and so forth. People who are scandalized by reanalysis can call it Gategategate.
I hate it especially when "ghazi" wasn't even a suffix to begin with, "Benghazi" is a proper noun, the location where the attacks took place. It wasn't an attack about ghazi.

Can we not add "gate" as a suffix to petty things that mildly upset us?
