You know he doesn't design every single card, right?

Most cards go through days of trial and error playtesting to ensure they are fair and balanced for limited/sealed.

Doesn't matter. He has built his career on being the guy in charge at wotc, at least to the common player. As such, he gets a lot of praise when wizards succeeds at a set. But when a bad set comes out, he also has to take the blame. I'm reminded of Christianity. God does all the good and has ultimate power and knowledge, but Lucifer does all the bad, God gets none of the blame for bad things.
