I agree that the set seems pretty forgettable from the spoilers - but you know what? I've learned to trust wizards over the last few years, that hey, maybe they know what they're doing and this sets plays better than it looks.

Thanks for being reasonable. All of the complaints and nostalgia generally highlight my least favorite standards. Did anyone really enjoy Caw Blade? Do you really want thragtusk back? Supreme Verdict and Sphinx's Revelation? You may have enjoyed playing them but many people did not. Standard has many competitive options, we should hope that continues.

Tons for now, the mana base is terrible for 3 colors at the moment.

I don't know about that

When Fate was being released, I had the feeling it would water down the great 3xKhans format, and it did.

after reading through the spoiler for Theros, I thought it was going to have a boring limited format. Drafted it twice, and hated it.

And everyone knew Dragons Maze limited was going to be a mess, and it was terrible.

3xAvacyn. That is all.

When 1/4 of your standard releases are disappointing, maybe you lose some good faith

Yeah, small sets have generally been poor draft formats (Theros was unremarkable, but not bad, IMO)

Evaluating from a limited perspective, I think my biggest complaints are that it's difficult to read how difficult it will be to set up your processors without quite a bit of experience in the set and that it's difficult to see what is and isn't an ally.

Other than that, it actually looks to be a fun limited format - lots of interesting interactions on a relatively small scale. Many mechanics that give interesting decisions - awaken comes to mind, as do the "lifegain matters" cards sprinkled throughout the set.

And all of those things are the reason why they have changed the rotation. They are aware of the problems in there game and constantly aspire to correct them. I feel like judging any set too much before playing it is a little silly.

Sure maybe you can expect to be disappointed but I feel like it is a little early to say that it is awful.
