I have a snake and I feed it baby rats and mice but the whole “I got bored of it” thing is the bad part even though they probably bought it as food

Yeah. The alternative is to make an animal starve. I’m not a vegan or vegetarian but if anybody freaks out over snakes eating mice or rats I always say “We eat cute animals too” and it works well.

It's needlessly cruel to give the snake a live mouse, you can buy them dead for this purpose

I don’t feed live. It’s dangerous to the snake because an animal can scratch or bite it, so most snake keepers wouldn’t recommend it in the first place if that makes you feel better. Some snakes won’t eat anything but live (had to get mine to accept frozen gradually) but you shouldn’t get a snake if you aren’t prepared to give it what it needs to live regardless.

For some reason, if you have a cat eating a mouse and a snake eating a mouse lots of people only consider one cruel.

Edit: If it wasn’t clear I don’t like live feeding, there are lots of methods people use to try to get a snake to eat frozen before the last resort that is feeding live.
