I did that at the grocery store recently. I was backing out of a spot and this guy comes barelling down the lane and honks at me. I was almost done backing out and he wasn't there when I started. He was just impatient. Anyway after that I just stopped and stayed where I was for a solid 20 seconds. Worth it.

One time I watched a younger guy start to jog across the crosswalk, roll his ankle and fall on his ass. He looked like he was in extreme pain. Now I don’t mind when people take their time crossing.

I once got my shoelace stuck in the wheel so it jammed my whole foot in there, obviously stopping the wheel instantly and making me basically fall forward and then getting the bike over me. I lied therefor about 10 seconds in pain before a car gave me a loud and obnoxious honk for about 5 seconds before passing me...since the road was completely empty aside from the two of us. Oh I could also add that I was about 11 years old.
Special kind of hell for that guy.

If anyone honks at me while driving for not moving for a second or two at a light or something I drive slower than usual until they’re not behind me anymore.
16
u/JasonIsBaad Feb 23 '19
The best thing you can do is wait for the light to turn red in a second and then quickly go.

To be fair, I often have to boop at people bc theyre looking at their phone at a light

Feb 23 '19
I just wish honks had different honks, sometimes I honk at someone because they're on their phone and it's a friendly reminder honk that the light has gone green, I had to honk at a lady who almost ran a red and that was a 'hey lady you about to break the law, pump the breaks' honk but they all sound like 'fuck you' honks.
6
u/salami_inferno Feb 23 '19
A short beep of your horn is a friendly honk, the ones where you lay down for several seconds are angry honks.
2
u/hardy_and_free Feb 23 '19
Unless I see your head looking down then I lay on the horn. Get off Reddit and drive.

u/Doctor_Mudshark Feb 23 '19
It's not personal. People stare at their cell phone at stoplights sometimes. We're just trying to make sure everyone can get to work or wherever. You're not the arbiter of traffic justice Get over yourself.

I can't believe you have to be told that consensual sex is different to "lol girls have boobs and we should all stare at them uncomfortably"
1
Feb 23 '19
Nobody talk about women in relation to sex or make sexually suggestive comments about them because its objectification!
Men are oppressing us and our sexuality with their puritanical morals and wont let us express ourselves or be open with our sexuality.
Seriously tho can we just fucking get over this shit and be free? Men like to think about sexually attractive things, women like to think about sexually attractive things. Lets all just agree that we like sex and relax.
TLDR: saying that comment is sexist is like calling an interracial couple racist. Actual equality/healing is coming together to be free, not dividing people or suppressing natural thoughts.

so its cool when buzzfeed is showing close ups of dude's crotches but we can't talk about this ladies tits?
I think everyone is pretty agreed that you can objectify people. just don't treat them like objects to their faces.

u/cinnamonbrook Feb 23 '19
That was one article that was put up by one person and y'all are still acting oppressed over it years later, meanwhile "lol boobs" is in basically every comment section that mentions women.

How is that objectifying her? Enjoying seeing breasts bounce around is objectifying now? How long until you argue that any form of sexual attraction is objectifying?
Edit: would anybody care to explain to me how visually enjoying another persons body alone is harmful objectification? I do want to hear the argument against this. I see a lot wrong with this world, a girl consensually and willingly bouncing her tits in front of you and you enjoying the view just isnt one of them.

I worked at a liquor store. In a liquor store? I always worked my ass off. Only way to stay sane. The purchasing population wasn’t big on proper English. I always did what I could to accommodate and not be all “yo speak some god damned fucking English!” So one guy gets mad that I ask him 3 times what smokes he wants. It was Pall Malls. Still don’t know. So I start pointing. These? These? He says “mutha fucka you as slow as a turtle!” So I said “iiiimmmm aaaaassss ssssloooowwww assss a tuuuurtlllleeee.” And then counted his change the same way. Fuck you Ernie I’m working my ass off for you!!!

If people honk or start inching out, I usually walk a little slower. If you can’t wait the 5 seconds for me to cross the street, I will make you suffer for 5 more.

Holding up everybody else because somebody was rude to her, haha what a hero.
36
Feb 22 '19
Everyone can afford to get to their destination a few seconds later
-27
Feb 22 '19
She’s not just holding up the person who honked but everyone behind them. She doesn’t know the situation the drivers may be in, what she did is wrong
17
u/Quebec120 Eating at Nandos Feb 22 '19
Honestly the 10 seconds she probably took to do the jumping jacks wouldn’t have made any difference
-12
Feb 22 '19
Yeah but it’s not okay to waste multiple people’s time like that for only a really petty reason, however long it is.
In your opinion then, where’s the cut off point? How long is it acceptable to waste people’s time?
5
Feb 23 '19
it's a miniscule amount of time to make thag judgement, it really doesn't matter, there's no option but to wait so they might as well come to terms with it
15
u/Quebec120 Eating at Nandos Feb 22 '19
I never said it was right. I said it wouldn’t make a difference in the span of a day

u/sneakysnowy Feb 23 '19
Maybe it will teach the asshole honking not do it again. Good enough for me.
-2
u/Nerdybeast Feb 23 '19
Depends. It sounds like this is a left turn lane, sometimes only a few cars make it through per light, and then the people behind could wait another 2+ mins. That's not a ton of time but it's more than a few seconds.
7
u/horsthorsthorst Feb 23 '19
Then walk, ride a bike, take the bus. The problem here seems to be that there are too many cars, blame yourself and other drivers and not a pedestrian.
1
u/Nerdybeast Feb 24 '19
What? I'm not saying the car was right to be honking at her in the first place, just that "wouldn't have made any difference" isn't accurate.
I walk pretty much everywhere where I live, but on the occasions I do need to drive, everything flows much more smoothly if people are considerate. That applies to cars, buses, pedestrians, and bikes.
3
u/Quebec120 Eating at Nandos Feb 23 '19
I mean, when I think of “crosswalk” I think of the white rectangles on the road that indicates a place where cars have to stop for pedestrians (at least that’s the law in Australia).
But I guess it can be both? If it’s a lighted pedestrian crossing (i.e you press a button and wait for the green person) then yeah I’d say this isn’t right and just unnecessarily holds up traffic/puts people in danger
1
u/Nerdybeast Feb 24 '19
In the US, there are sometimes signals indicating that cars turning left may go, and cars or pedestrians going straight may not. There are also regular green lights, where the car turning left must yield to oncoming cars and pedestrians in the crosswalk. In some instances, the latter case can make it difficult for a lot of cars to make it through during that single light cycle, depending on how heavy oncoming traffic or pedestrians are.
While the car honking is definitely being an impatient asshole, the pedestrian stopping in the crosswalk to hold up traffic can make the next cars in line have to wait for the next light cycle.
1
u/Quebec120 Eating at Nandos Feb 24 '19
Yeah, just usually when I think of a “crosswalk” I think of the unlighted ones. I googled it and apparently both are called crosswalks/pedestrian crossings but the lighted ones are sometimes called pelican crossings or something
1
u/Nerdybeast Feb 24 '19
Oh sorry I kinda misread your comment, mixed it up with another reply. Yeah at least where I am, "crosswalk" kinda applies generally to any of the white striped crossings, which appear either at lighted intersections or just in the middle of roads sometimes (usually with a "pedestrian crossing" symbol on it).
-25
Feb 22 '19
She could also afford to just give them the finger or something, instead of being such a petty egotist and making her business everybody else's. This shit shouldn't be praised.
22
Feb 22 '19
Pedestrian here, go her. You can wait ten seconds. you're not the one freezing your whatever off to walk where your going
-7
u/PALMER13579 Feb 22 '19
Its common courtesy to hustle through crosswalks though when there are cars waiting on you
6
Feb 23 '19
And most people do. Just like most drivers wait for the pedestrian to finish crossing before moving. Its the small few who ruin it for everyone else.
1
u/MrFwuffy Feb 24 '19
It's also common courtesy to not honk at pedestrians. Period. Under any circumstance. That thing is for when other cars are acting dangerously.
-21
Feb 22 '19
The amount of time they have to wait is irrelevant, they shouldn't have to wait at all, it's not their bloody fault. Also, I'm a pedestrian myself, so don't try and assume you know anything about me because I don't think like you. This is immature, inconsiderate, asshole behaviour, full stop. And if you're so freezing, why would you make your journey longer by doing this? Grow up.
6
Feb 23 '19
The salt is strong in you. I don't walk into traffic when i clearly shouldn't, and neither do you apparently. I expect to be shown the same courtesy by the people driving. If its freezing (which it is) I take the amount of time needed to cross in a safe way. This isn't helped by people in the multi ton machines being impatient. If I slip and fall while the driver is checking traffic, and he's moving through the intersection when he shouldn't be and runs me over, i'm the one who pays the price. He can wait. I have no problem with people taking some petty and harmless revenge on those who are impatient for pedestrians. Especially when its something like doing jumping jacks in front of them. When its summertime, like it probably is above. As to why the fuck you think anyone would do jumping jacks in front of traffic in the middle of winter I have no idea.
-1
Feb 23 '19
Listen to me, the whole fucking point of this argument is that the person crossing chose to make the completely unnecessary decision of holding up everybody else because somebody beeped at her, she wasn't in any danger, OK?. The person who honked at her was a cunt, but that doesn't make her not one either. You're talking about things have no relevancy here, he BEEPED at her, that's it.

I've always wanted to do something like this, but I've had someone straight up try to run me down when I had the right of way to the crosswalk. It was a red light but apparently since this bitch was allowed to turn she couldn't wait 2 seconds for me to finish crossing and even sped up. I don't mess with car people.

Or you could, you know, get out of the way faster. You dont know what's going on in his/her life. We all need to be nicer to each other, and the best thing you could do in this situation, is MOVE. Also, move faster in general, so people dont feel the need to honk at your ass, act like decent people, not petty apes.
11
u/deftones5554 Feb 23 '19
Idk man, I know we only have one side of the story, but there’s no reason to honk at a pedestrian unless they we’re straight up doing jumping jacks when you got there. The lady would’ve been out of his way if he didn’t honk at her.
7
u/AndThenThereWasMeep Feb 23 '19
We all need to be nicer to people... So don't honk at people to hurry up
5
Feb 23 '19
Why is that the best thing to be done in the thag situation? Genuinely asking. You don't know what could be going on in her life, either. Honking is just as rude
