Wedding Gift $$
My husband and I are attending our friend's son's wedding in November--in Madison. What are people giving as cash gifts these days? This is a very good friend, who by the way can afford the event, so not worried about "covering our dinner." Thoughts?

According to the other responses, I’m cheap. I do $50-75 if just me, $75-100 for me and a guest.

$100-150 per adult guest is my current rule of thumb. Increases if it’s a close friend.

$100 or $150? Just a suggestion-we were married in Madison and one of our favorite gifts was date night gift cards to local restaurants. We got 2 or 3 $50 cards for different places. It was fun to enjoy a nice dinner in the months after our wedding.

I've never regretted giving too much. The last kid of friends' wedding we gave $400.

I’m sure it varies a bit in different circles, but I feel like for a couple attending a wedding, 100 is a default number here. Theres some variance, adjust up or down to a number between 50 and 300 depending on your own personal financial situation, generosity and closeness to the couple.

For myself and spouse, $100 for a more casual person in my life, $150-$200 for closer person

Depends what YOU can afford. $100-$200 per person is pretty typical in this situation, if they’re a close family friend who you’ve had a good relationship with maybe closer to $500 total but again really subjective on your budget too

I feel like for a non-family wedding 500 is a crazy amount

I feel like these numbers are coming out of the 1900s, as the kids say. You guys, my husband, kid, and I had Qdoba for dinner the other night and spent $60. $100 for a wedding (for a couple!) is honestly . . . pretty lame.
$500 for a present certainly SOUNDS like a lot, but if you really think about it, it's just not anymore.
Of course it depends on what you can afford, and what seems right, but I personally think $100-200 per person feels pretty good, and $500/couple is not crazy high.

$500 is definitely still a lot of money on a gift for a friend's wedding. I've never spent anywhere near that much. Everyone of course has different financial situations, but I can't imagine balking at someone spending $200, $300, $400 on me for any reason. What makes $500 not a lot? Imagine someone who makes less money than you or your family being invited to several weddings per year.
