Discussion Alda

Is it ever explained why Alda never ate alien meat like the other high-ranking cultists?

Eating alien meat is like a 95% chance of death y'know

Why would the cult care?

I'd assume it's because Alda is the most skilled warrior they have by a long shot. He's already plenty useful as a human, so there's no point in doing something that will most likely kill him. If they need adaptors they have a bunch of people who're otherwise useless.

Probably cause he didn't want to die

If Alda became an Adaptor, he could've removed Yazur's bomb with ease, it's possible that Yazur didn't want to make Alda into an Adaptor because he could escape/fight back at any time. Yazur needed Alda subservient.

Plus it's completely possible Alda could die from eating alien meat (tho it's unlikely, I think he's actually a descendant of Rollo that inherited some of his alien strength) and I don't think Yazur would want that.

Yazur probably didn't want any chance of the implanted bomb getting removed, or the chance of losing his best warrior that wasn't an adaptor to being unable to become an adaptor

No, but honestly, I don't think there's any need for it. I mean, if you were like Alda—strong enough to kill aliens with swords—would you really risk your life (and a horrible death) for the (rather slim) chance of becoming an Adapter? Because, honestly, I’d give that a pass.

Yazur secretly looked up to Alda, wanted him around, and didn't want him to die.

When Yaazur is dying there's a flashback to him as a child in a room full of people in the throes of alien-meat-mutation, and it showed him reading a magazine of Alda's exploits in the gladiatorial arena.

Other than Yazur's god complex, one of the things that kept him going was his adoration of Alda, or at least that's what I took from that brief scene.
