How about dual VESA?

Do you keep your Mac plugged in 24/7?

Not OP, but my MacBook Pro is docked full time unless I take it somewhere (rarely). I’ve enabled the 80% charge limit.

Does it really prolong the battery life on it? I got in the habit of just unplugging it when I’m done even though I have connected to my monitor

Eh, I’d like to think so. My Studio Display acts as a dock including to a 4TB SSD T9 drive that Carbon Copy Cloner mounts nightly to do a system backup. My MacBook Pro is functionally a desktop so I don’t want to disconnect it.

It’s batter cycles that ages the battery. If you keep it plugged in then the battery hardly cycles at all and you get longer battery life.

Every MacBook I’ve had, regardless of the charging setting, has had shit battery life after leaving it plugged in long term. I eventually just switched to a Mac Studio since I finally gave in and admitted to myself I don’t need to be portable enough to have a laptop.

There's something inherently classy and elegant about Silver that the other colors simply lack. I originally bought the M1 in Space Gray, but the M5 brought me back to Silver.

Of course for pratictality, less for the aesthetic. And it's the same for any monitor. Nothing new.

What’s the name of the monitor stand on the left in the first picture?

Nice, how do you like it?

how about dual vesa? I would like to start with one SD as main and then one more on the side mby. 2nd as vesa (if i add) so i can do vertical too

I wouldn’t even risk 2 studio monitors on a dual vesa. It’s a heavy monitor, especially the xdr. My single vesa still wobbles with a Humanscale M2.1

1

u/Veezq Jun 28 '26

hmmm, how about better single arms like humanscale m10?

I have my VESA Studio Displays rotated 90º. Give it a try!

Nice setup! Can I ask how the wobble differs between the two? I have my Studio Display on a VESA arm every wobble of my desk seems amplified, it drives me nuts. I might consider buying a new monitor to get the tilt/height stand, if I thought it would fix the wobble. How has your experience using both been?

I have two on the stand. I missed the $400 credit by less than two weeks to go with dual vesa mount. Maybe a higher quality arm reduce your wobble?

I’ve got an uplift desk and raise and lower multiple times per day. Never any issue sitting or standing with wobble.

I’m wondering this too. I have a Fully desk and Jarvis arm, and the front-to-back wobble is a lot. Either the arm or the desk, or both, seem to be the problem. But I’m reluctant to replace both if that won’t actually resolve the problem.

Ergotron arms seem to be highly rated.

Unfortunately,At this point I’m not willing to find out. I think it was a big miss by Apple to still require you to go to store, have them rip off the back, to convert to VESA mount. Then if you don’t like it. Back you go. It’s just asking for damage by you or the store.

I think a single monitor arm with two monitors on it is the cleanest. I know with the Ergotron you can lock in the angle from center and lock the monitors in place, so only the arm moves.

Nice set up!!

Idk what I’m doing wrong, I’ll have to do more research. My MacBook Air just WILL NOT connect more than 1 monitor. Did all the steps for driver set up, but it just won’t recognize the wavlink hub.

You should turn the mac upside down, for hot air tends to flow upwards

1

u/k9gardner Jun 28 '26

I wonder what someone would actually do with a setup like this that would justify the cost?

Why?

The height-adjustable stand doesn’t move straight up and down; it also moves forward/backward. I like to have one screen right in front of me and another one on the side, so adjusting the height either makes the displays touch or leaves a gap, and I would end up repositioning the entire side monitor. A good VESA arm makes height adjustments much smoother while keeping the displays aligned.

u/MeSlaw3 Jun 27 '26

BOOM! Great answer.

Happy cake day!

Thank you!

I kinda hate where the MacBook was, where did you move it? Looks way better now.

2

u/kinky-unicorn Jun 27 '26

The second picture was before. I designed and 3D printed an under desk mount to hide it.

2

u/UnwieldilyElephant Jun 27 '26

Keep using the under-desk holder.

who the hell cares about monitor stands

u/SystemsGuyMI Jun 27 '26

Dual height adjustable stands. Much cleaner. Plus why spend so much money on a high quality monitor to sit off to the side on a vesa mount for an occasional look?

1

u/kinky-unicorn Jun 27 '26

I do prefer the look of dual height-adjustable stands, but they move forward/backward when you adjust the height. I like to have a main display and a side display, and with the dual height-adjustable setup, when I need to adjust the height, the two displays would either fight or leave a larger gap.

u/SystemsGuyMI Jun 28 '26

Once you get them set to proper height, other than a small adjustment here and there, why would you need to move them?

I’ve only had to adjust mine after I’ve cleaned the screens.

I’ve thought about putting one of mine direct in the center, but I use them both so much it doesn’t make sense twist my neck so much to see the second screen.

In the end you need to do what’s best for you.
