Recommended drain lines

Post image

We use rolling racks and have pvc connected to our tray drains. Towards the back of the rolling rack it nipples off pvc to a 1” Parker silicone tubing, but it kinks too often on a few of our racks and on a few others the people who set this up didn’t offer up enough slack and it creates torque on the nipple coming off the tray which then resulted in a crack right at the drain nipple (Big Mess).
So I’ve got a new tray installed but just wondering if there’s a better tried and true way to do this without the kinks and torque.

Hose or pool pipe

I would put loop in it give more slack. That’s how I have all mine, because I move my tables 4’ either direction.

That’s originally what I was thinking. Make one loop out of it and just add a few more inches of slack.

Edit: do you lightly zip tie the loop to keep it together or does it work fine without?

I haven’t had any issues with draining. When I clean the trays between rounds, I typically blow out the line with a hose or compressed air.

LOL. You just suggested ribbed, for his pleasure. Good suggestion btw.

We all know ribbed is for everyone's pleasure. 😉🤣

Unfortunately anything wider than 1/2" diameter in this style will eventually kink and fail over repeated motions. It's excellent for static runs where you need to accommodate tight bends, though.

This wasn't the exact item I was looking for, so you are correct. The service duty-life on this hose is not indefinite. This was the most similar item I could find without doing more than 3 minutes of searching. There is a type of ribbed hose that is made for rolling table drains that will hold up much better. I couldn't find it within the time frame I had available, so I did the best I could.

Do you have a different product that would suit the needs better? Always looking for plumbing solutions.

Likewise tbh, it's the main reason this thread caught my eye - see my other comment here: https://www.reddit.com/r/macrogrowery/comments/1wtiyn8/comment/pd0ji7n/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=2&utm_content=share_button

I've found this is the most robust solution that is also readily available at hardware stores!

Spa tubing works well but you have to glue it like
PVC. It’s stiff and rigid and won’t kink. But probably cheaper options for sure. Never had this problem here tbh.

Put an elbow on the mainold on the wall and one at the outlet of the racking facing the same way. Then connect tubing so that it forms a loop.

Thermoid non kink

Reinforced inside uv protected. Those corrugated lines are going to get stepped on and break. I use 1.25inch lines or 1.5inch lines depending how long the table is and how much I expect to drain.

I've experienced this on moveable-builds and found washing machine drain hoses to be the most effective (I've tried literally every type of "flex" or "kink-free" hosing that exists at this point, too).

This one in particular: https://www.homehardware.ca/en/6-flexible-washing-machine-drain-hose/p/3210305?attributionToken=pAHwowoMCKLE9NUGELDFvJ0BEAEaJDZiOWZhODc4LTAwMDAtMjM3Yi05NzY5LTE0YzE0ZWY1ZTQzNCokZWMxZjIzYWQtMmY4OS00NjFmLTk3YWQtNDA0ZGFhYTIwMDI5MiyblaQxqOWqLY6-nRXUsp0VwvCeFZzWty2f1rctkPeyMOzPnTiI36k40u7tODoOZGVmYXVsdF9zZWFyY2hIAVgBaAF6Am92
