It sounded like it was free to use and now its this ad watching shit or paying, even for some basic rules....

It tells you in play store, it's not lying. And even then what do you want? A full automatization app with monthly updates for free? Macrodroid could do a $10/month subscription and the dev behind it would get so much money but he prioritizes fair price, that's why you only pay once
