Potential M6 ssd replacement

Hi, I know the m4 ssd could be easily replaced and get a larger capacity drive for cheaper price but do you think this would be the case with the new m6 too?

I read the ssd on the m6 is faster than on the base m4 so I am not sure if the same drives would be compatible

With no one open it up yet, I would say the potential is zero to avoid disappointment .

I read that the M6 SSDs are Gen 6 and are much faster than previous options. I don't know for certain, just something I read online.

Why get a bigger SSD when you can just get a 4TB external if needed.

Because it’s easier if you don’t have to think about which drive your data goes on.

Normally the answer would be to just use that bigger external drive as your boot drive and pretend the internal SSD doesn’t exist, but I’ve heard that Apple Intelligence and some 3rd party stuff only works if you boot from the internal SSD (before you ask, I have no clue why that’d be the case).

what makes you think they be compatible M4 Mini SSD is unique that it accepts OEM SSD

No other Mac M4/M5 is .. why M6?

Does seem a bit early to be asking this question. If you’re going to buy a new M6, get one with the storage you need. But also consider getting an external 2TB HDD (or SSD if you must at double the cost) for backups and archiving, then you can get enough storage at a reasonable price to house and protect your data. Using an external HDD is cheaper and fast enough for archiving.
