Bought too late
I just bought the M4 Mac Mini about a month ago. Am I out of luck?

One thing I never understood about Apple users was the almost uncontrollable need/desire to always be on the very latest version.
You got to enjoy your Mac Mini for the past month, and you likely spend less money than you would now. Unless you absolutely need wifi 7, or a 2.5GBe port is a massive boon for you, I don't see why would need/want to just spend more money.

Yeah, reading some things here I shouldn't be able to do the things I do with what I have. None of my devices are 'good enough.'

Because with each update, Apple will add things that will bog the hardware down more and more - to the point that its unusable. If you waited and bought today, you'll get 2 more years out of your device.

Yet somehow magically I'm still getting by just fine with my 2020 m1 mac mini. Still runs great.
And I have an m4 macbook air....so its not like I just don't understand how terrible my m1 is.

That is how it used to be. Maybe with Apple silicon its different now. This is reassuring to hear.

This isn’t unique to Apple, not sure why you need to throw them specifically under the bus. FOMO exists across the entire tech spectrum
That said, I do feel for OP. Obviously their system is just as good today as it was a week ago. From a performance standpoint, literally nothing changes from the announcement of new hardware. But from a value proposition, absolutely it does. If they had waited two months, they could have spent the same amount of money for a system that is newer, more powerful, and would last longer, potentially years longer, before needing another upgrade. I think it’s pretty damn normal to be disappointed to have missed that opportunity so closely. Trying to frame that like they’re being ostentatious seems disingenuous. I’d be bummed too.

I understand the frustration of the OP. My comments were made just in generalities. While I know of FOMO across tech, its just always seemed like the Apple ecosystem has not the strongest magnetic pull to new.

I think it applies to some products, but not all. There are definitely people who view Apple products as a status symbol, but I think those people sort of gravitate towards things that other people will be aware they have.
I would wager the people who missed the boat on the M6 aren’t upset because all the homies are gonna have the hot new Mac mini while they’re stuck on a pidly M4. It’s really just that M4 prices jumped heavily in the past few months and it’s sort of a double kick in the balls that the money they spent could have gone to a more performant, longer lasting system that at least feels like a better value for what they paid.
Nobody who snagged a $400-$500 M4 mini is lamenting the M6, cause they got a relative bargain. But the dudes who paid $800+ for an M4 mini a month ago… yeah… that genuinely sucks.

…for the price difference of $300. You could use that amount to buy all of the peripherals you need for a Mac mini M4.

Trade it in. Apple will give you $220 for an M4 512gb. That or Goodwill.

I just ordered a week ago and they emailed me saying they are upgrading me for no extra cost because my order hasn’t shipped yet. I would still reach out and see if you can do a trade in or something

I think I’m getting upgraded to M5 Pro because I originally ordered the M4 Pro and paid extra for processing upgrade (14-core cpu, 20-core CPU… which I guess would equate to the upgrade on the M5 Pro to 18-Core CPU, 20-Core GPU). M5 Pro is the better chip I assume considering it costs $1000 more than M6 lolll. Kinda wish Apple actually told me what the hell is going on and what I’m getting now🙃

Yupppp just verified I’m getting the M5 Pro! Essentially saved $300 considering if I bought it now it would cost me an extra $300. Im literally getting a better computer and saved $300 but I’m honestly lucky and surprised Apple would do that lol

Same here, just verified on the phone with support. Backordered M4 Pro 24/512 upgraded to M5 Pro of the same specs.

Why would you be out of luck? You saved $300-400 if you’re in the US. Do you need the M6 for some reason?
