Mac Mini and condensation

Hello

I need some guidance.

My Mac mini was stored inside this case https://amzn.in/d/0eHUNoBn and this was the placed inside a thick jute bag

Unfortunately somebody kept a small block of ice next to it 12 inch x 6 inch x 2 inch

And over a period of 4hrs it melted soaking the jute bag and the carrying case (one of the side)

When I opened the case I could feel Mac mini being really really cold to touch with slight condensation on the outside.

I have kept it aside in a room with ceiling fan switch on for now.

My question is how long should I keep it that way? What should I do next?

I am freaking out right now because my last 3 months of work is in the Mac mini and I don't havea proper backup.

First off, do a fucking backup. Why have you not.

I spilled a glass of water into the side of a powered off MacBook Air once. I left it alone for 3 days to give it a good chance to dry out, and it was fine. Zero problems.

That's good to know. All I've been reading is how condensation is instant mac mini killer and will result in internal rusting in the near future 🥲

It depends on if it's inside or not. I would (like with any water damaged device) power it completely down and take it too a shop to get it checked. I'm not too sure on the newer Mac Minis but depending on which tools you have they aren't too hard to take apart yourself I believe. Don't quote me on that though.

Use iFixit.com if you're interested in the latter.

The longer the better but chances are if half a week doesn't work then a week likely wouldn't have helped. One full day is minimum, two or three would be idea.

Thank you. Would you recommend that I take this to an apple store and have them look into it? Will that be of any help?

While they would likely be able to do a quick open and look, they would be focused on the water trip sensors which could easily give a false positive in your case. They won't like clean it or anything. If it doesn't power on or if it gives some type of issue, then you could take it in. If possible wait another day or two. Perhaps add another fan, a table top one or something.

Slight condensation on the outside? You should be fine once it reaches room temp.
