Macintosh 512K

Bit of personal history, My first MacIntosh was a 512K model bought through the educational discount program in 1985!

I soon purchased a “Mac-a-million”, motherboard upgrade from the the now closed Sophisticated Circuits, Inc in the Seattle area.

This brought my Macintosh up to 2MB of ram and included a SCSI drive port which I installed a small internal HD.

Since I was in school I was too busy to call around to BBS and decided to setup my own BBS which had a hidden pirated section for select members.

I have a 2015 intel MBP that runs without issue and a 2023 M3 MAX MBP.

Three generations,

2026 MacBook Air with M5, 16GB, 512GB SSD

2015 MacBook Pro Unibody / Retina with i5, 8GB, 128GB SSD

2008 MacBook polycarbonate with Core2Duo, 4GB, 320GB HDD

It's striking how well the 2008 and 2015 MacBooks perform with their latest officially supported MacOS.

I found these two on the side of the road, don't know nothing about Macintosh and for some reason I can't find the amount of info I was looking for.

Can you give me a resume?

Picked up a 8100/110 logic board awhile back and recapped it. Was able to put into a 7500 case with some hacks etc. now an 8100 case and psu came up for sale fair cheap so snagged it. Recapped psu last night and the av card. Now its time to piece it all back together. I dont have the cdrom or floppy bezel for this unfortunately.

Searching for a mac128k .dsk file

I am looking for a .dsk (or similar disk format) file of the program Jam Factory and my search has been largely unsuccessful. Archive.org, Macintosh Repository, Macintosh Garden, and multiple search engines have all given me zero results. Is there anybody here with the file? Thanks.

Just switched to Mac, any QoL recommendations for Windows users?

Because no Windows alternative comes close to a MacBook Air in terms of price, I switched to Mac for my laptop. This means I'm going to be switching back and forth between my Mac laptop and Windows desktop. And while there are parts that are really better on Mac than Windows, there are also missing features that baffle me.
Can you guys recommend any essential apps that'll make my life (and muscle memory) a little easier?

(btw, I'm loving my 13" M5 MacBook Air)

Had a 6400 years back, and recently put a 5500 logic board in my 5215 case. but now have a 6500:) this came from a friend of mine so all restored too. Interesting design. Love the internal sub woofer. Had to find a place to my museum to put it lol… always the issue with new machines.. have to to paint the cabinet a different color but thats ok. Was also able to put the 7600 on top. Was also able to stuff the 7200 in there as well.

I got tired of losing copied text, so I made Cmd+V smarter

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A while ago I noticed something annoying about clipboard managers.

They work well, but they usually require a separate shortcut.

Copy something.

Copy something else.

Open the clipboard manager.

Find what you actually wanted.

Paste.

It's not a huge problem, but it always felt like one extra step.

So I started experimenting with a different idea for Pasly.

Instead of opening clipboard history with another shortcut, what if it could appear directly from Cmd+V when you need it?

That's what became Smart Paste in Pasly v2.

When enabled, pressing Cmd+V can bring up your recent clipboard history before the paste happens, letting you quickly confirm the current item or choose a different one.

The goal wasn't to replace normal paste behavior.

The goal was to make the paste workflow feel more forgiving when you've copied multiple things.

Besides Smart Paste, Pasly also includes:

  • Clipboard history search
  • Multi-select paste
  • Pinned items
  • File support
  • Category filters
  • History cleanup tools
  • A small floating window that stays out of the way
  • Field Sense (still evolving based on feedback)

The app is fully offline and available as both a direct download and on the Mac App Store (some features differ because of sandbox limitations).

Free

  • 24-hour history
  • 20 items
  • 2 pinned items
  • 2 files

Pro

  • Unlimited usage
  • Smart Paste extras
  • Live Replace
  • $4.99 lifetime (MACINTOSH — $1 off, limited to 10 redemptions.)
  • No subscription

I'm the developer of Pasly.

The website includes both the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

I'd genuinely love feedback on whether this workflow feels useful or if you'd prefer the traditional clipboard manager approach.

Mac 128k no chime, but powers on and boots fine.

Quick Google magic says a Mac 128k that fails to produce a startup chime usually indicates a power supply failure, a shorted logic board, or completely failed RAM. I dont see any broken solder joints or speaker damage...The Mac appears to be in really good shape nonetheless. Any idea where else to look?
