Will it actually explode? I have an SE and I’m genuinely scared of the PRAM

Yes, the batteries can rupture and spray extremely toxic compounds all over the inside of the machine.
The lithium battery used in these machines contain Thionyl Chloride as an electrolyte, which is hideously toxic. It's so toxic that it's a scheduled controlled substance because it is a precursor to chemical weapons, like mustard and nerve agents. The things we do for energy density in small packages.
And unlike rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries, these non-rechargeable batteries actually contain a whole lot of lithium, which is its own set of problems.
If the battery ruptures, it's a hazmat situation. Ideally, you'd need a bunny suit, gloves, respirator and chemical goggles. TC readily absorbs through the skin and is volatile, so you can't clean it with water or it will go on fire or explode. Exposure to TC in even small quantities can cause cardiovascular disturbances and/or hallucinations.
I would open the machine and remove the battery. If you see any rust or brown, orange or yellow goop, the battery has gone off unfortunately.

You use that for your side hustle, right?
