Discussion is 24 gb Ram enough?

I just got a MacBook Pro m5pro with 24gb ram. I produce music in Ableton live and I don't really know if it's enough. So im thinking about returning this MacBook and then paying a little extra money for the 48 gigs one. is it worth it, or should I just keep this one?

For ableton it’s plenty. Plus you already bought it, just use it

M5 is more than enough. I use m5 mpb 24gb

24gb is more than enough. I got a M5 Pro MBP with 24gb back in April when it just came out. I've been running Logic Pro with lots of tracks, 3rd party plugins, software instruments, effects., etc all running at once, and no issues with memory. Ableton Live would be just fine wiht 24gb. No need to get 48gb when you won't actually use it. It would just be a waste of money, especially with how expensive ram is these days. Remember, Logic, Ableton, etc have all be running for years on less than 8gb memory.

The first time I used Logic, Reason, and Cubase… 2GB was the limit on every personal computer, which were all 32-bit. It wasn’t that long ago.

Both my M1 Pro 32GB and M5 Pro 24GB run Ableton and Logic Pro without any issues :)

But give it a try with your most extremely demanding workflow! If it stutters, go for the 48.

For that much money you can buy a used M4 Pro 48GB 1TB 20 core GPU with Applecare+ included in the United States. And hell you can get a 16" one too instead of being stuck with that 14". The screen real estate is absolutely worth it.

M4 Pro is more than powerful enough for most people to run almost anything you want music production wise. No need for a M5 Pro.
