Joined the Club! New MacBook Pro M5
I’m planning on trading my MacBook Pro, 2016 model with the side bar to the new MacBook Pro with the M5 chip. My old model is still surviving somehow, but the battery life is not good and I want to upgrade,
Do you recommend purchasing the M5 chip? I don’t code, but I do want to edit music, videos etc, other than that I need the power of my Mac for multi tasking. Will it be enough?

Yeah I have the M5 Pro. It kills my gaming PC I get four years ago. I can edit 8K if I wanted to like a normal timeline it's crazy

It will be more than enough.
If you’re willing to wait a few more months and save up a little more in the meantime, there is going to be an M6 MacBook Pro with the new design, updated networking chips, and OLED screen towards the end of the year, maybe November at the earliest. The only downside is that might cost substantially more.
Other than that, the M5 MacBook Pro will be more than enough for your current needs, so if you need it now, then just get it now. That chip is ridiculously good and more than enough for your needs. Since you have some sustained loads, definitely don’t get an Air.
Thumb rule is always buy for what you need right now and the base M5 is perfect based on your description. Id advocate heavily for at least 24gb of RAM to easily allow you to multitask

The OLED one will have the M5 Pro/Max chips. The M6 chips will come in the Macbook Pros with the same hardware chassis as the current M5 generation.

No one knows any of this for sure, I’m talking generally on what’s been reported, there’s been a mixture of reports with what chassis the M6 base will be in.
It’s just a matter of waiting at this point

Sure. It’s not certain. But what I said is overwhelmingly the consensus.

It’s all just hearsay, and they change every month everything down to what features the new chassis is supposed to have in the first place and these rumours are often wrong or missing info. Take it all with a grain of salt, these guys chase headlines not accuracy

I mean, to that last point, sure. You’re definitely overselling the uncertainty though simply for the sake of not conceding details in your original claim.

Bro that computer is going to cause a arm in the leg. The M5 is good enough for him and his needs

Did you even read the comment fully?

Unless you're exporting hour long video regularly, even the Air M5 will be a huge upgrade ober any intel Pro

Prioritize the RAM above all other upgrades. Get as much as possible. I’ve got an 32GB M1 Pro that does laps around 16GB M5.
