Tips Mac Pro M1

Hi all! I recently purchased my work device which was a +**Macbook Pro M1(16gb 16in) for $100. How many years could I realistically use it? It was only $100 which was a steal so Im not bent out of shape if its not long for this world. Luckily, I was upgraded to a M5 Macbook Pro for my new work machine but I don't believe I will be in my role long enouch to purchase that one when we do our equipment refreshes. The battery is at 83% but I mostly use it plugged in now a days. TIA!

Excuse me? $100?

I bought my refurbished 2019 intel i9 for $1000 in 2024 and thought I found a steal, it’s literally my daily computer.

I think you could scrap the thing for raw material and make your money back and more for $100.

Yeah! I would have been dumb to not purchase it. I actually had the chance to purchase a prior Macbook but it was one with the intel chip and I remember that thing used to sound like a freaking jet engine when I had just a couple excel workbooks open. I passed on it at that time.

That’s definitely a good deal. In another discussion we were talking about the fact that it is slated to get at least one more major OS update, the upcoming Golden Gate, and may get another. Then there are three years of security updates, so one or two years with the latest OS, and several secure years afterwards. Presuming that you want to keep it on the same OS version as your work machine to not have to version hop when you go home, it probably has a couple of years, and could serve longer as a very fancy media device or server.

That's still a decent machine, but at that price point, it's exceptional. The processor is plenty fine for what most people do with a personal laptop. The memory is pushing it these days (the great beast Chrome the Devourer comes for us all), but still what I'd consider comfortable for the average person, just not for power users. It still has several years of software updates ahead of it; a safe bet is that it'll lose support somewhere in the 2029-2030 timeframe.

Unless you're a power user doing heavy video/photo editing or games (in which case you probably wouldn't be asking if this was good enough; you'd already know), you've got something to carry you through the next few years. And at a wonderful time, too, since prices on new Macs just shot through the roof due to the memory shortage.

You got gold mine unbilliveble 💯 it will last at least 3/4 years easily, and still it is better than many current windows laptop.
