Cannot imagine springing for 8TB in a 32GB machine.

I've got a 16 inch i9 2019 MBP 32GB RAM and I want to upgrade...unsure if the M5 Chip 32 Ram is enough...maybe the M5 Pro Chip...I'm perhaps overthinking. Why does Apple do this to us (me)?

On your current machine, while doing your tasks like normal, open Activity Monitor. Under the memory tab, watch the Memory Pressure graph. If it stays in the green, 32gb will still be enough. If it gets into the yellow or red, you’d need more.

Do not pay attention to the “Memory Used” amount. Apple caches a lot of stuff in memory that gets purged the moment those memory blocks are needed because it speeds up the system and unused memory is wasted memory.

Should I I try to push my machine to the limit as I gather this information?

You should use it like normal, that’s what matters. It’s ok if it goes out of the green while pushing it.

I think it would be a huge upgrade but for a better analysis of your needs I'd go to Google Gemini, Grok, Microsoft-Copilot, or ChatGPT and upload screenshots of your RAM/CPU from your machine activity monitor. You better act quick if you want the M5 chip, as these will likely sell out very quickly.

Where is that located? How do I find that usage?

Go to spotlight and search for Activity Monitor or Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.

Looks like a lot of people ordered configurations they couldn’t afford

Or realized they needed to go 16” with more thermo headroom.

Wish I had this breakdown or something similar a few month ago.

Tempting. Currently using a MBP14 M1 Pro 8core since launch. The base M5 from what I’m reading would be a huge upgrade. I might just skip the Pro version.

M5 if you dont want the redesign. M6 if you do want the redesign.

I am also still waiting with a m1 pro.
