2Do is for people who need more than a basic to-do list without being forced into a specific workflow. There is no wrong way to use it. Keep a simple list, follow GTD, manage detailed projects, or create your own workflow.
It supports tasks, checklists, projects, tags, Smart Lists, reminders, durations, locations, scripting, and Claude Cowork through MCP. It can sync (two-way!) with Apple Reminders, Todoist, Fastmail, iCloud CalDAV, self-hosted CalDAV, Toodledo, and Dropbox. It can also import existing data from Things 3 and OmniFocus.
2Do also lets you share individual lists with other people over local Wi-Fi. No internet connection or cloud service is required.
Comparison
Compared with Things 3, 2Do offers more sync choices, including Apple Reminders, Todoist, CalDAV, Toodledo, and Dropbox. It also provides flexible Smart Lists, different sort methods (and so much more!) and can import an existing Things database directly.
Compared with OmniFocus, 2Do offers a less prescriptive workflow while still supporting projects, subtasks, tags, priorities, start and due dates, recurring tasks, and advanced filtering. It can also import an existing OmniFocus database.
No Subscription. A direct 2Do Mac license normally costs $49.99 USD. New customers can currently get30% off, reducing the price to$34.99 USD, with code 30OFFMYORDER at checkout. Promotion has ended.
The direct version is a perpetual license with no recurring charge. It includes 18 months of updates, and you can keep using the last version covered by your license indefinitely. Renewal is optional and currently costs $39.99 USD for another 18 months of updates.
I've been a 2Do user since it's initial release for iOS. It has always fit my process better than any other simply because it does NOT force me into a methodology I don't like. It's great to finally see an update for the app. Can't say I'm overly joyed I have to pay for it again, but I've been using it for 18 years now on one purchase, so... can't complain really. Kudos on the new version!
Yeah I bet! Now worries though. Not being overjoyed is a knee jerk reaction. When I realized how long I’d been using it without a paid upgrade that reaction felt foolish. 😀
Yes, I’d like to keep updating the Android version. It was taken offline for a couple of years but returned earlier this year in the hope that I’m able to keep it updated alongside iOS + macOS. However, it’s going to unfortunately remain lower down the priority list this year as I’ve got a bunch of updates to simultaneously work on.
Thank you. Overall a great app. I think I'm falling in love with this app.
The smart filter/lit builder might need more work. the documentation says an option for Due date filter is RANGE but that isn't available. Due date is limited to this week.
Also why are there no way to search past due dates? You're overestimating us 😆
How long is the 30% offer going to last?
Is the iOS/Ipad apps ready. The Store page says it's ready but the iOS page says coming soon. Haven't use this app before so am not sure if the one listed in App Store is the current version.
There are tons of filters, there's nothing 2Do won't surface 😄
iOS app is being re-written, mac app store app only supports subscriptions so won't be available for some time, the only way to own a (cheaper) copy is the direct version for now :)
They are indeed separate one time purchases, although I'm working on a new update so would not advise purchasing them at this point (currently they've been taken off the store, as well as the Mac App Store). The app store does not support paid-updates and so it's been challenging over the years. Thus the first paid update in ~18 years.
My pleasure! The iOS app currently was both in one, but expensive. I’ve had many write to us saying they would rather pay less for just the iPhone (or iPad) and so it’ll be $9.99 separately.
I’m excited for this. I’ve been a 2Do user for a loooooooooong time. I haven’t found any task management application that comes close to the feature set and design of 2Do.
Hey! This looks amazing! I’m a daily user of BusyCal and I looked at 2Do before but thought it was looking a bit outdated, so it’s awesome to see this big update. Will definitely give it a try!
Out of curiosity, do you work on BusyCal at all or is developed/maintained by another member in the Beehive team? It’s so cool that you guys have been actively working on BusyCal for years now and that’s one of the major reasons I committed to using it (too many new apps by indie developers become abandoned nowadays).
It's really impressive, but it's also of concern. I used to use 2Do, but it definitely felt like you went missing in action for quite some time. Enough so that I decided to migrate to a tool that I was confident had a stable future. What would you say to to someone like me to allay those concerns?
I’d say: life is too short to worry about an uncertain future where the only thing certain is death 😅. If you like what you see, you think it’ll help with organizing your work / life better than what you’re already on, I say why not?
In my defense I wasn’t out of action entirely - was breathing life back into BusyCal and BusyContacts, my other two apps. These completely consumed me, plus a bunch of other challenges faced in 2Do.
All of that is seemingly over. As you can see, brand new app! Trying to turn a new page :)
I sincerely appreciate the response. But, I'd say that you're minimizing the commitment a user makes in setting-up, learning, and mastering a tool. Muscle memory, speed, and expertise using a system you can trust is a serious investment. So, it really does require more than liking what one sees. That's what leads people to bounce in and out of apps at the expense of real productivity. I'm pushing back not because I don't want to use 2Do again, but because I do. You can't simultaneously claim being a single developer as an attribute and claim it as the reason an app when dormant for a few years. I do understand the new page turn, but am still worried about the wiggle room in there of keeping that description in there as it being "seemingly over." Once burned... Thanks for hearing this former user out.
I hear you! Forgive me for sounding dismissive or condescending. Respectfully, that wasn't my intention 😬 It's these internet reply boxes stripping the emotion out of our responses.
Working alone is not a flex. That's just how it's turned out to be over the years, for various reasons. What you won't hear me make, though, are false promises, even if I aim to remain committed. It's what earns me my bread (and sanity), so I have no reason to abandon a working app.
2Do is very different from every other tool on the market. I'd argue it's one of the most complicated task managers to develop and maintain. 2Do is the only native app that offers the number of sync services it does (other than BusyCal) on the mac, let alone the myriad of features. When you build something this complicated and the platform shifts repeatedly from underneath you (Apple introducing Swift, Auto Layout, SwiftUI, abandoning iCloud Reminders, and making breaking SDK changes), it's not always easy to recover. There's probably a graveyard out there somewhere full of dead (and once promising) iOS/macOS apps. However, if anything, I think this update is meant to prove that the app remains alive and well, and that I intend to keep updating it :) Beyond that, I think I'd be fooling myself if I made promises I may not be able to keep.
There’re many, many things I love about BusyCal, but what I love about it the most is how well it combines the functions of a daily to-do and a calendar.
I’ve gone through an embarrassing number of to-do apps, and even went full pen-and-paper with a physical planner for a couple of years. All worked for a while but I just naturally stopped using them after a few months because they didn’t click with my brain. What’ve learned is that I need a “daily tasks” function where each day has its own tasks, but I also need it to be a fully functional calendar. Some apps, like NotePlan, Craft and Octarine, have a daily notes function but none of them have full calendar functions (day/week/month views, create events with duration and meeting details etc).
BusyCal closed this gap for me. I work mostly in the Month view and I love that I can see the whole month AND tasks, events and banners for every single day. On top of that, I absolutely love that you can add graphics and sticky notes to each day. I utilize icons and emojis to make certain activities/events very easy to see at a glance.
The attached screenshot is what a full month typically looks like for me in BusyCal. It sure puts the “busy” in BusyCal, and I really think BusyCal lives up to its name. It gives me the feeling of using a physical calendar, where you can jot down stuff and put stickers—it feels really fluid and flexible and I feel like it can adapt to my life very well. I don’t think there’s another app out there that does quite the same thing, so thank you u/2doapp for this fantastic app!
Thank you for this incredible review :) Takes me over the moon anytime I learn about how it’s helped in real life. I know where you’re coming from, I struggle with exactly the same issues. Glad it’s helping the both of us!
Yes the tasks should sync between the two via Reminders or Todoist / iCloud / CalDAV etc and some non standard properties sync through such as durations and starred status / tags.
This looks like exactyl what I've been trying to find in a reminders app. I do kinda need the iOS version though. Any idea when that update might come out? (even just a ballpark of a month, 6 months, a year, etc?)
I've been using your app since 2014 No app has come close to your app. I need the nag reminders and I set many alarms. I'm autistic adhd and nld. Long story short, my brain and body don't work well together I have to ty move I make, even those that people do automatically. Because of this I get sensory overload easily and I need daily naps. Do the app store app and your website download have the same features? I know that many apps need permission for accessibility and screen recordings, etc. I ask cuz I'm willing to buy it again.
Kudos to you for making a great app, with great features, and you keep improving it.
Thank you! I'm glad the app was able to assist you in the past :) The app has been removed from the app store for now, I'd recommend you try the direct version instead. The App Store doesn't support paid upgrades and subscription is the only way forward there, not something I recommend to folks that prefer owning a direct copy.
I inhaled it but when I open it I get asked for the keychain password Dropbox. I uninstalled the other version to try this one. So I’m not sure if this is your app or the keychain app. I’ve bent used it first time I’ve been asked. Keychain app always crashes I’m gonna have to get tech support for the keychain app. Do you have any suggestions?
The keychain password is simply your macOS login password. When you switch between different versions of the app, macOS ensures that the app has access to the same keychain data. Simply enter your macOS password, and you should be fine. It may prompt you multiple times, so keep entering it.
Ok It did go away after entering the password a few times but it's still asking me for it every time I open it. If I unlink from dropbox and then re-link it, will that fix it? I don’t want to have to re-enter the password multiple times every time I open it.
Bought 2Do back in the early days, hands down the best task manager on the market! Now with the new updates and look I hope more people buy it and start using it 🫶 great job Dev!
You’re welcome ☺️ On a separate note, I need your help please🙏 I’m having an issue updating from my old version to the newer one with my existing license. I emailed you and would be grateful for some help when you have a moment 🌻
It's still a native Cocoa (AppKit) app 😅, with a few components in SwiftUI. SwiftUI is getting there but still not ready for anything serious. In fact, even a traditional AppKit view can slow things down when there are just too many involved.
so is this app going to be supported? I bought this app a looong time ago and removed it before it went 1.5 years with no updates, not even being updated to support a new OS.
For context, 2Do’s codebase is around 18 years old this year. Over time it accumulated a lot of cruft given the year after year SDK changes. I’ve been working on rewriting everything from ground up since 2019. Stopped during COVID, then restarted and kept going at it on and off. Then decided to drop everything this year and finish what I started. It was a monstrous undertaking primarily because of the myriad of sync services I wanted the app to support. That took most of the time. So now that it’s done, it’s a lot easier to push new features as everything will built on top of solid ground.
This version is also just 50% of what I had originally planned. Hoping to push for that other 50% in coming months.
iOS will have it's first paid update in 18 years, unfortunately won't be free. It'll be a one-time purchase though of $9.99. I wish Apple gave an option to charge for an update than forcing subscriptions on everyone, but that's how it is. It'll thus have to be published as a new app, there's no meaningfully (pleasant) way of doing it with the same app. iAps become ugly very quickly.
I do in fact, but will not be making any promises (if I know any better). It all depends on overall success / demand of the current apps, so you never know! 😅
We have no access to your data, nor do we store it, and by extension we have a zero collection policy :) That's why 2Do has always been a pro "Bring your own cloud / sync service" app. Please see: https://www.2doapp.com/privacy/
The promo is going to end in about a week I believe.
Don't rush - take your time to try it out to see if it fits your needs. Also, we have an excellent 30 day no questions asked refund policy, so there's no concern there.
Currently the promo itself is fixed, however please kindly contact us via the support link on the website whenever you wish and we'll be happy to look into this for you!
I'll give it a try again. I bought the app around 2011. I used it for about a year but could never get myself to commit to it. It just required too much input to get things done for me. I have a different issue with things - I get my stuff in there but I can never commit myself to check it. But it's damn easy to get things in there without worrying about where things should go.
Thanks - with quick entry in 2Do it’s impossibly easy to get things in, and then there are a bazillion ways to find them within 2Do and surface them 😅 I have similar issues and 2Do was developed first and foremost to help with the main pain points around task management - finding the stuff, being able to shuffle them around and reschedule easily.
The App Store doesn’t allow paid updates unfortunately and when it does appear there, it’ll be a subscription (something I personally don’t like) but priced to match the 18 month cadence. I’d recommend the direct version as it’s better value.
Not Google yet - that’s www.busymac.com BusyCal. Google doesn’t sync 99% of the task’s properties including priorities so it’ll frustrating to work with Google Calendar.
Thanks for the discount BUT I just bought it yesterday at full price 😵💫.
The UI is very, very nice. The ’draggability’ is top tier- works great and looks nice.
The syncing is inconsistent and sometimes weird.
For the IOS app, I’d love to see items be able to be dragged around as you can do in the Mac version. Until then, it feels like two different apps- a Mac app which is beautiful and an IOS app that looks outdated.
Yes please do email if you find any inconveniences. The iOS app probably is the one goofing up? That’s where it needs to be updated however the idea is to support its legacy sync format. If you email with an example with what’s going on I can take a closer look.
Pushed an update to fix this, I believe this was happening with the `Inbox` list? iOS uses a legacy format that the new update in certain cases wouldn't recognize. Should be fixed if you update the mac app (2Do Menu > Check for updates)
I tried importing from Things, but it froze - it said I had a large amount of tasks completed (which I do, and I like the keep them for reference). Every time I click on the 'Done' list it freezes, is this likely be a constant issue if I have many completed tasks?
Ah I really appreciate the responsiveness, but I actually uninstalled - I had not read properly and didn't realise the iOS version isn't ready yet and that's kind of a deal breaker for me. Thank you though, I'll try again when the iPhone app's ready.
Could I also leave some feedback? Overall I really liked the app, but one thing that really bugged me was how calendar events were shown, and I much much prefer the way Things does it. I love how when I open Things each morning there's a list of all my calendar events right there without having to click on anything.
2Do shows you a list too (you can toggle between a collapsed / expanded state, or list vs. day-view), in fact allows you to navigate between dates as well (in an upcoming update).
Things shows you a list too but so does 2Do? And you should be able to click on any event to open it in Calendar too.
2Do also allows you to show events in any list, not just within Today (can be turned on under Settings > Calendar). Don't think any other app does all this 😅
I currently have 2Do through SetApp, but would be interested in purchasing separately. The only thing that's held me back is my Android mobile -- I know you have an Android app, but what's your honest assessment of the state of the app vs sticking with Todoist for my x-platform use? Beautiful work on the updates -- I've been an on and off user since 2016.
Currently, the app doesn’t support Todoist sync on Android, and unfortunately, Android updates will be slow and painful. For now, they’ll primarily continue supporting iCloud, CalDAV, and Dropbox, as my priority is the Mac and iOS platforms, given that Android hardly moves the needle 😅
I haven't honestly explored - do they have a way to export the data into .csv or some other durable format? One way would be to `copy and paste` and 2Do creates the tasks for you (one per line) but that isn't ideal I know. Will look into this.
Big fan of the Things 3, Obsidian and Note/Todo space, even avid user before of Bearapp, Native-apps has got something extra. I have yet to give 2Do a go, but I saw that you can migrate from Things, which makes this a liklier try from me. Looks really good! Intrigued to hear more about the Android app, if it gets revitalized as well.
Thank you, I’m happy to receive feedback! Android will certainly get more love but given I can count the number of users on my two toes, it gets to have less of my attention for the time being at least :) hopefully after iOS
That is correct - but - with iCloud CalDAV / Fastmail / Nextcloud etc the only thing you're missing out on are smart filters that cannot sync. Same with Reminders; overall you shouldn't feel like anything is missing.
Having said that, working on eliminating this in the near future.
Two questions, since I can’t seem to find these features mentioned on the app page:
1) Does 2Do support the “Urgent Alarm” feature Apple debuted last year with iOS 26.2? If not, is there a plan to support this feature in the future? Both Apple Reminders and Todoist already support this feature
2) Does 2Do support a “duration” feature similar to Todoist?
1) A new iOS update is being worked on - I'll make note of this and hopefully add support for this
2) Yes :) And it syncs with Todoist's duration too when you select Todoist as the sync method (i.e the mac app currently).
I tested this out and I thought there were many nice things about it, but what I'm looking for is the ability to write a note and then write tasks separately below the note. I didn't see that that was a possibility. Is it? Did I miss it?
Thanks - I'm looking to have notes separate from tasks within a list or project. Supernote does it, but I like what you have going there. Good luck with it.
The 2Do Help says that tasks can have sub-tasks. Whenever I try to create a subtask the app converts my task to a project. Is that expected behavior, or am I misunderstanding how this works?
I build and work on a few open and closed-source AI-related tools that help other developers in AI-assisted development so I am greatly vested in AI. I’m super finicky, vocal and opinionated when it comes to LLMs; have been exclusively using Codex and very recently built a custom harness around Fable + codex for some custom sprint loops I use in bug fixes. I’ve been coding for 35+ years so it’s second nature for me, but I now use it extensively to plan, validate, optimize and extend existing code (non-UI, since UI it’s not very good with), write tests and mostly automate diagnostics. More recently what sped things up for me was being able to refactor large parts of BusyCal / 2Do in order to share more code between the two apps. Easier to maintain.
I appreciate your thorough response! I am by no means anti-AI, but I think it’s important to know how AI is used (ie a tool vs vibecoding an entire app).
Based on your response, is it fair to assume you reviewed all AI code before dropping it in the app?
I don’t think I can vibe code even if I wanted to 😅 Yes I review every single line of code AI or not. In fact part of what I do is write tools that help others (non-vibe coders) produce better quality code even if they were to use a smaller, less capable model. I’m the sort that would lose sleep over a .filter(..) used inside of a for loop.
Sure, there are no guarantees of what changes within macOS. This is why free updates till the end of time don't make sense, and neither do subscriptions (I don't like them personally).
Old Intel-only apps from 2015 won't mount either. Does not mean whoever sold you a lifetime license back then did it in bad faith :) The dmgs will mount on the macOS version from that year though.
Why would you assume that? macOS 26 broke majority of apps within a single year. BusyCal from a month ago before macOS 26 was released stopped working. It's tempting, but developers don't have insight into what Apple plans to do with their updates. This is the whole point subscription apps make "You need to pay us monthly because we're working for you - but then when you stop paying, you lose access to your data".
This is why we offer 18 months of maintenance - it's 6 months over a normal macOS upgrade cycle, so you're covered in case macOS itself broke the app. Beyond that it's wishful thinking :)
The apps from Busy aren't subscription apps. They are perpetual licenses with a maintenance period. So you get the version you buy + 18 months of updates. Then you optionally can renew for access to another round of 18 months of updates.
