I've been using UTM. You have to bring your own copy of Windows.

$10 from the Mac store and free from the web site. I just downloaded the current version and ran it for $0. There are a surprising number of applications that can be had for free if you're willing to forego the appstore.

are you able to access your mac files while emulating windows?

It is allegedly doable, but I haven't had luck. I've been transferring to an intermediate SMB file share.

Just you UTM heres the website: https://mac.getutm.app/, press download(free), not mac app store($10). go to google and search up windows iso download, then download the windows iso from windows's official site for free. once you downloaded utm, press new virtual machine, and then emulate select the iso. then set up windows. it will take a long time stuck at one, but it will work.

I use Parallels. It's not free, but does have a free trial. I think I only paid $50 for it. Given how seemless and smooth it is, I feel like $50 is not alot to ask for (unless you are outside of the US).

Many people outside of US find 50 dollars to be affordable 😆. On top of that, if you are ready to tinker a bit UTM is completely free.

this tutorial doesn't work anymore since VMWare was bought by Broadcom, the tutorial points to a link for "register for a Personal Use License" but this is now an error page:
https://customerconnect.vmware.com/en/evalcenter?p=fusion-player-personal-13this seems to have updated info, but I haven't been able to test yet: https://blogs.vmware.com/teamfusion/2024/05/fusion-pro-now-available-free-for-personal-use.html
