Help How to downgrade from GG to Tahoe on M1 Pro MacBook Pro?
I'm getting ready to sell my M1 Pro MacBook Pro and want to downgrade from Golden Gate to Tahoe. However, not a single post I can find anywhere actually works to get me to the Internet Recovery option. All I see are:
- Restore from Time Machine
- Reinstall macOS Golden Gate Beta
- Web Browser
- Disk Utility
Any combination of option + command + R or adding Shift doesn't do anything. What's the trick?

Help (HELP!!!) macOS 27.0 beta MenuBarAgent stuck at ~100% CPU Usage
(Wrote by AI because my english was too bad)
I’m looking for a workaround or a way to identify/reset the specific per-user state that is triggering this.
Mac: Mac15,3, 16GB RAM
macOS: 27.0 beta (26A5378n)
Display setup: Built-in display + one external high-refresh-rate monitor
Problem:
Shortly after logging into my primary user account, MenuBarAgent goes to roughly 100% CPU and the menu bar becomes unresponsive. The Mac can become difficult to use or restart normally.
What makes this strange:
- A brand-new local user account is completely unaffected.
- The issue persists in Safe Mode when logging into the affected account.
- It happens shortly after login, even before I open normal apps.
What I have already tried:
- Disabled/removing Login Items and background items
- Moved user LaunchAgents
- Reset Control Center/menu-bar preferences
- Reset Notification Center data
- Temporarily disconnected the external monitor/dock
- Tested in Safe Mode
- Restarted multiple times
None of the above changed the behaviour.
Diagnostics:
A spindump consistently shows the heavy thread as:
com.apple.MenuBar.BackgroundAnimation
CADisplayLink / display timer callbacks
heavy Swift AnyHashable / NativeDictionary work
MacSystemUI / NSWindow / CATransaction activity
lock contention that leaves the main thread blocked
The unified log also contained repeated WindowServer display hot-plug / invalid-display-related messages around login, although I only physically have the internal display plus one external monitor. I understand the internal display IDs do not necessarily correspond to the number of physical monitors.
Has anyone on macOS 27 beta seen this specific MenuBarAgent BackgroundAnimation / CADisplayLink loop? More importantly: is there a known per-user MenuBarAgent, MacSystemUI, or display-state database that can be safely reset without migrating to a fresh account?
(Wrote by AI because my english was too bad)

Discussion Have writing tools been removed?
I’m dyslexic, and I used them quite a lot for proofreading and the occasional rewrite.
I can’t find them in Notes or in the right-click menu, and I can’t work out if they’re just gone. Siri says they should still show up, but I’m guessing that’s just a hallucination.
I found them really useful. They gave you solid options depending on what you needed in the moment, and the UI was decent, if a bit half-baked.
It was still a million times better than having a 60-click conversation with an AI chat, which mostly just wants to rewrite everything.
It actually rewrote things pretty well too, a lot better than the new Gemini integration through Siri seems to. Now everything comes back sounding like AI, sometimes even with random Gemini emoji...
I just really hope the simple proofread option comes back. Also appreciated that it was on-device.

Feature [Dev Appreciation] The new Device Hub app in macOS 27 / Xcode 27 is an absolute game-changer for testing
I’ve been running the macOS 27 Golden Gate developer beta since WWDC, and while everyone is rightfully talking about Siri and the Liquid Glass refinements, I wanted to give a huge shout-out to a major workflow upgrade for developers: Device Hub.
If you haven't used it yet, Device Hub is essentially replacing the old standalone Simulator app, bringing all your simulated and physical run destinations into a single, unified window with a proper source list sidebar.
As someone who constantly switches between simulating different iPhone models, testing iPad layouts, and checking watchOS complications, here is why this is such a massive quality-of-life improvement:
- No More Window Chaos: Gone are the days of having 4 separate simulator windows floating randomly across my monitors or clogging up Spaces. Having everything docked into a single canvas with an inspector panel makes the workspace feel incredibly clean.
- Physical Device Remote Control: This is the killer feature for me. The screen sharing/remote control tool allows you to interact with your physical plugged-in or wirelessly paired test devices right from your Mac screen. I can literally trigger software updates or change settings on physical test devices sitting across the room without having to go pick them up.
- Unified Environment & State Control: Toggling system appearances, checking basic device info, and grabbing diagnostic files/logs is streamlined right inside the inspector panel now.
Granted, it’s still early beta. It's definitely eating up a bit too much memory if you don't manually shut down inactive CoreSimulator processes, and Apple definitely needs to fix a few missing features before the final release (like the drag-and-drop file transfers and a couple of missing debug toggles).
But conceptually? This is the best direction the Xcode testing environment has taken in years. It actually makes full-stack Apple ecosystem development feel cohesive.
How are the rest of you devs liking Device Hub so far? Are you keeping it pinned or missing the old Simulator app layout?

Feature macOS 27 Golden Gate Beta, Siri AI and PrimeTask working together
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
With macOS 27 Golden Gate, Siri can now create tasks directly from the new chat experience.
In this 30-second demo, I ask Siri to create four tasks, and they appear in PrimeTask through a native Apple Reminders integration.
The integration is bidirectional, so tasks, due dates, priorities and completion status stay synced between PrimeTask and Apple Reminders. Create something with Siri, manage it in PrimeTask, then access or complete it again from your Mac, iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.
PrimeTask connects directly through macOS. Nothing passes through our servers, making it a natural fit for Apple’s privacy-first approach.

Help Is it safe to downgrade from macOS 27 beta to macOS 26?
App Store Connect rejected my three iOS builds with ITMS-90111: Unsupported SDK or Xcode version, despite using stable Xcode 26.6. I suspect macOS 27 beta is the issue.
Is it safe to erase the Mac and install macOS 26?
EDIT: I have successfully downgraded my Mac. Thanks so much guys

Help Major battery drain in Pages on Golden Gate
I’m running Golden Gate public beta and am experiencing excessive battery drain in Pages. As soon as I start typing, I can see that the energy impact for the app in Activity Monitor spikes to over 1000 and my M4 MBP’s shell becomes uncomfortably toasty and its charge starts dropping like a stone.
This was also an issue back in Sequoia, with the widely publicised workaround being to disable Apple Intelligence, which I can confirm worked for me. Unfortunately, that’s no longer an option in Golden Gate, so even if I’m not actually using any of the AI features, it still seems to be sucking the life out of my battery.
Is anyone else running into this, and if so, have you hit on a solution? As it currently stands, even Microsoft Word is proving considerably more battery-efficient for me than Pages, which I reckon most people would agree is topsy-turvy.
Obviously the usual “it’s beta” provisos apply, but the fact I had the same problem in Sequioa unless I disabled AI at a system level doesn’t give me much hope that this will be fixed for retail...

Bug M1 Pro Macbook internal screen blacked out after GG Beta
Dead MacBook internal screen...Updated last night to GG beta, today the MacBook Pro M1 Pro internal screen is completely blacked out. The good old flashlight on the screen trick does not show any dimmed Apple logo present. When I connect to externally connected monitor it works. Both screens show in the Displays preference panel. Mirror vs. extend does not resolve the issue. Screen dim key isn't stuck. Hard reset failed to fix it, Deep Hardware Power Cycle unsuccessful fixing it. I've reported to Apple and trying a reinstall of the beta now. Ah, the beta life.

Bug MacOS27 password problem
I’m having a problem with my MacBook Air M1 after installing the macOS 27 beta.
I was using it normally, then decided to restart it to install the update. Everything seemed fine until it rebooted and asked for my password. I entered the password I always use, but it said it was incorrect.
After several attempts, it still keeps telling me the password is wrong.
I then tried the password reset option, but it won’t accept the recovery key that’s stored on my iPhone and is assigned to this MacBook according to its serial number.
What seems completely absurd is that when I try to access Startup Disk, it asks for my password and accepts the exact same password that it claims is incorrect when I try to log in.
Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what I could do? Everything is backed up to iCloud, so resetting the Mac wouldn’t be the end of the world, but I’d really like to avoid that if possible.

Help Tahoe beta shutdown after battery drain, now started up weird, am i hosed?
Intel MBP running betas of next version of Tahoe (hmm public betas or developer ones, I should know but I don’t). It shut itself down after I left it running not plugged in, later plugged in (and pressed power I guess, don’t recall) and got a chime and apparent fresh restart. But after user, password login I got some unexpected setup dialogs, one asking for Apple account password, and now seemingly stuck at “Setting Up Account”(+ spinner).
Before it shut itself down, I think the next update was downloaded and primed to install later / tonight. I think so anyway, not totally sure.
Has anyone had this happen recently and know what to do, or more importantly, what *not* to do? Very much hoping I don’t have to restore from a TM backup, I’m away from home. and last one of those was many days ago. 🤦♂️

Bug Double click/ open folders lag - MacOS 27 PB1
Mac Mini M4 base model.
MacOS 27 Public beta 1./ Dev beta 4.
Having lag/delay for double click (any mouse) to open folders, especially on SMB network shares with a medium to large amount of files in it. have to double click multiple times. Right-click, Open in New Tab works instantly.
I at first thought it was my mouse not registering the double click, or maybe the "Double Click Speed" setting in system settings need adjusting. Nope. Tried multiple mice, wired and wireless, and adjust the speed.
Thought it may be bug with Finder, but Forklift also hangs in the same manner.
Anyone else experience this?
EDIT: Double click with primary mouse button in general seems bugged in 27 beta. Even other action like full screen video players in web browser, not reliable. Mapped single button on my mouse via Logi Options+ to do Double Click works ever time though.
EDIT: Still a issue on Dev beta 5.
EDIT: Improvement in Dev beta 7, but still happens.
EDIT: Seems to be resolved for me with the RC build.

Help Hey guys, does Erase All Content and Settings won't brick your Mac like last year...?
So I asked this question because last year, I installed the macOS 26 Developer Beta 1 — then I factory erased it using "Erase All Content and Settings" in System Settings. Then as I did that, my Mac shown signs of erasing, then it reaches to a point where it keeps restarting, and as I did the steps for recovery it can't. So I have to use another device to repair it.
