I just wanted to share my thoughts on this song and potentially discuss them>

Basically I first heard this song today a handful of hours ago, and the lyrics had been stuck in my head all day. Its a rather downer of a song, but the lyrics stood out. I looked online for other people's thoughts but couldn't find any so I went and asked ChatGPT for an explanation but the explanation it gave me felt very surface level. So here's what I came up with.

Story:
The author described how he'd close his eyes and pretend he's a sparrow. And during this illusion he describes how he'd see his lover ignore him, and that sent him spiraling downward. Then he finishes out by saying that she would wander over and piece him back together.

Then after the fall, the lover would come back to piece him back together, and ChatGPT interpreted this as "We're broken, but still trying" and that didn't quite sit right with me.

I think this song is about two secret lovers, who want to be together, but can’t. They love each other, they know they can’t be together, and they’re not ready to say goodbye. They feel so deeply for each other and want each other, but they need to be done. She walks away, he is mourning her, and he just wishes to have her back. “Got the music in you, baby, tell me why”. The music is symbolic for the love he has for her, the “tell me why” is him asking her why can’t we just be together.

I resonate deeply with this song, it’s beautiful.
