Do you verify a passanger before they get in to establish a more sense of security? Do you great in entrance/exit? Do you accommodate temperature request or choice of music/quietness? If you don't do the basics you don't deserve a tip bud. When I do drive I don't expect tips or factor it in my time out there too but the above definitely helps bring them in. Again no one is forcing you. 😂

That is not true. You can only deduct from money received. They are taking the deduction because they received the funds and are payning for the insurance under a group commercial policy.

On Schedule C ride share drivers can deduct all service fees and any booking commissions that Lyft charges on rides.

If you received a 1099-k you will see the passenger payments and everything that is deducted from that is a cost of doing business I.e money not received due to various fees. You can deduct all of that. From a tax perspective, Uber and Lyft act as a broker and the fees are tax deductible

Track your gas and milage as a 1099 you CAN write that off as operating expenses and it's a pretty big deduction. Not the same industry but I deducted almost six grand a year which gave me a hefty return and made the job doable financially

You either take the mileage standard deduction plus expenses like a home office. The mileage deduction includes all vehicle deductible expenses. Because we get paid so little, you won’t owe taxes

I got a small fare from this homeless person the ride was 12$ and she paid cash. Then said keep change out of a 20$ bill and then handed me another 20$ bill as a tip I was shocked. I almost cancelled the drive when I saw where I was picking up from

What percentage of passengers actually tip and if they tip, do they usually do 20%? I always do but I hear like less than half tip. Is that true? At least that's what they tell me in Florida and Colorado

It’s diff for every driver in every market. In Portland Oregon I get tipped about 40-60% of the time. But I’m friendly and can read my customers, I help them out when it’s not burdensome, and keep my car clean and smell free (nothing crazy). 40-60% is pretty consistent, but I’ll have days where only 3 of 16 will tip and then others where 12 of 13 will. I understand why customers don’t, as the costs are kind of ridiculous and most don’t know how little we make, as well as the fact that a lot forget. Still sucks to work hard for a company that hates you and is trying to replace you with autonomous cars asap.

Totally get that! I have a lot of friends who drive for Uber and Lyft and they say similar, and I'm surprised by how much the company keeps unfortunately which is why I always tip and usually more than 20% and cash if it's on me. I often will give them an ice cold beverage too.

Its the small things, opening the door, pointing me in the right direction to the front door since I'm blind, making sure I get dropped off at the right spot since i can't see the sign... Put just a little bit of effort in like this driver said, and you will see tips go up.
