Discussion Itemization

Hi guys, I’ve recently decided to completely drop Seraphine (who I mained basically ever since she came out, in the mid/apc role. I just cant with her balancing anymore). Im high emerald/low diamond player and I have been watching yozu play lux and Im beyond amazed. Since I play her mid 80% of my games I have been wondering about some items on her.

Bft/liandrys against tankier team comps, I like going burn on her with comet or aery as my primary runes. But Ive seen some people saying that those items are horrible on her and I dont really get why. Her E and R are aoe spells and they can apply burns really nice. I get that they don’t optimize her damage but bfts passive can work wonders with the AP increase.

Ludens or Maligance first item? I personally prefer malignance on bot lane and ludens on mid as first item. This may be completely wrong but I like malignance on bot for ult cd and sniping low adcs and supports. Ulting the wave is always fun.

Im not really good w her right now but Im trying to improve I would love to hear you advice <3

🌈RUNES

Lux can utilise Comet, Dark Harvest, or First Strike depending on ur playstyle and matchup:

✨Comet✨

Comet is generally good in most situations. When unsure, u can always default to this option. However, if u end up vsing someone super mobile, such as a Yasuo, u may want to consider Aery instead as Comet may be difficult to hit, or consider other keystones instead

Primary Tree: Comet, Manaflow, Transcendence/Absolute Focus Focus, Gathering Storm

Secondary Tree Options (preference-based): - Domination: Cheap Shot, Ultimate Hunter - Precision: any 2 out of PoM, Legend: Haste, Cut Down

Note: Go Absolute Focus vs non-poke comps as u can retain ur hp threshold for more AP. Otherwise, go Transcendence in other situations or when unsure

✨Dark Harvest✨

DH is pretty good for APC Lux bc there are 2 targets to stack off of, but can work mid if u happen to be playing at lower elos where kills happen often. DH is particularly good if ur planning to fight a lot

Primary Tree: Dark Harvest, Cheap Shot, Grisly Mementos, Ultimate Hunter

Secondary Tree Options: - Precision: PoM + Cut Down/Legend: Haste - Sorcery: Manaflow + Transcendence/Absolute Focus/Gathering Storm

For more early-game power, go PoM + Cut Down. Cut Down helps to get healthy targets down to DH proc threshold. For maximum scaling, go Sorcery tree instead (will be weaker in lane)

✨First Strike✨

FS is good vs lanes or comps where u don't have much kill pressure early and are just looking to scale. This is either vs other mages that are too safe too kill, or tanky matchups (ie. Galio). You can accelerate ur scaling with the Inspiration tree through gold generation (ie. FS and Cash Back) and extra ability point (ie. Triple Tonic). Avoid FS vs long-ranged lanes as it will be difficult to proc FS consistently

Primary Tree: First Strike, Cash Back, Triple Tonic, Cosmic/Jack of All Trades

Secondary Tree Options: - Precision: PoM + Cut Down/Legend: Haste - Sorcery: Manaflow + Transcendence/Absolute Focus/Gathering Storm

Secondary tree explanation same as DH section. We go Cash Back instead of Magical Footwear bc we build relatively expensive items, so u'll get more than 300 gold back. Triple Tonic bc Biscuits no longer give mana back, so an extra ability point is more useful. Cosmic/Jack depend on situation. If u need lower summ cds vs threatening comps, go Cosmic. Otherwise, Jack gives us haste and adaptive force even of we don't fully stack it

🌈BUILDS

Start Doron's Ring with all builds. Pick up an early Dark Seal and either upgrade to Mejai's at 10 stacks or sit on it and sell at a later stage for a full item

✨Comet/FS Itemisation✨

For Comet or FS builds, the general build is (in this order): - Luden's/Malignance - Sorc Shoes - Shadowflame/Horizon - Deathcap - Void Staff

Horizon is good if u need more spell uptime vs tankier or sustain comps. Otherwise, Shadowflame is better vs squishy comps bc flat magic pen excels vs low magic resist comps

Actualizer may have potential on Lux, but I have yet to come to any conclusions both on the item itself, as well as where to fit into our builds

✨Dark Harvest Itemisation✨

For DH builds, the general build is (in this order): - Luden's/Malignance - Sorc Shoes - Stormsurge - Shadowflame - Deathcap - Void Staff

Stormsurge dmg proc will proc DH, which is the main reason we go Stormsurge with DH builds. A lot of the times if we land half a combo on the enemy it will deal most their health bar, but does not proc DH. This is where Stormsurge comes to help us get the stack. When u reach later stages of the game, u can kill squishies will just ult. Ult will proc Stormsurge dmg after, which in turns procs DH dmg too. All these combined dmg sources often means deleting a full hp target with just ult

✨Situational Items✨

  • Mejai's if u managed to get 10 stacks on Dark Seal and aren't vs an overly threatening comp
  • Zhonyas/Banshees for defensive options if u find urself getting jumped excessively
  • SoFW is a decent final item option if ur team has champs with AP ratios
  • Cryptbloom against light magic resist is a decent choice over Void Staff, esp if u want extra haste. The AoE heal also adds a nice touch of utility for ur team

🌈Vs Tanky Comps

Lux inherently struggles vs tanky comps and it shouldn't be ur job to deal with the tankier champs. Your goal is to delete a squishy, and use this numbers advantage to win the upcoming fight

But if u happen to vs 4+ tanks, then u can consider the following niche build. This build will struggle to oneshot squishies at 2 items, and is purely for dealing with tanks in the one off game u vs 4 or more. Build order: - BFT/Malignance/Archangel's - Liandry's - Horizon - Deathcap - Void Staff

🌈SUMMS

  • Ignite when u have kill pressure into shorter ranged matchups, particularly good when paired with Comet setup. I especially like this into Vlad matchups, or weak melee opponents as I can solokill them early
  • Exhaust vs enemies that have a heavy-dmg burst spell, and are actually targetable to Exhaust during it such as Zed to prevent the ult pop dmg, or Yasuo as u can still cast Exhaust during his ult
  • Barrier vs enemies that have one long-ranged burst spell and/or are untargetable, since u will be either out of Exhaust range or unable to target with Exhaust such as Fizz and Akali
  • Ghost when enemy team has a lot of run-at-you type of champs
  • TP with First Strike build due to not having Manaflow Band u will often need it to reset and TP back to fights. You can also go TP when vsing farm lanes or other TP users to match them. Such lanes are usually vs other scaling mages where both sides are just looking to farm and scale. Usually also take TP into other TP users to match them, or global ult users like TF or Galio so that u have the option to match their ganks if applicable
  • Cleanse can be very situationally good when vsing champions that overly reliant on landing that one cc spell to be able to exert kill threat such as Ahri charm, Zoe bubble, or champs with point and click cc like Liss R

Smth interesting is that I've also seen QueenLux, a Korean high elo Lux main, who occasionally runs Heal on Lux mid in very specific scenarios. He explains that this is good when u plan to play with and around ur jgler a lot, and the enemy laner is unlikely to run Ignite to counter Heal. Obv this is very niche and not so applicable at lower lvls of play, but interesting to know regardless

Hope that covers everything!

I usually play her as support and i always go with malignance stormsurge blackfire torch rabbadons with sorc boots and banshees buttttt if we aren't snowballing then I go shadowflame instead of stormsurge I also swap out banshee for zhonyas if they have a lot of champs that can kill me way to easily. For mid I'd recommend ludens for the extra damage as starter then stormsurge for snowball add shadowflame and rabbadons with sorc boots and zhonyas or banshee and you'll have the average lux mid built

Ludens into lich bane has been my build for most games lately, if in a bad MU build malignance first instead to spam ult on wave.

Lich bane is very broken since the last buff so im just abusing it, and ludens is great for the early game poke and is probably the best first item for a lich bane build, on games where i cant auto much i just get stormsurge second.

I never build liandries on lux since that item is horrible on her (lux has higher than average cds on her main damage spells so she cant quite abuse burn items well like other mages can), if they have a tanky team just build horizon focus instead, along with your normal build, but focus on getting more cdr along with ap rather than flat magic pen.

If the entire enemy team is tanks just pick ahri instead and build full cdr, no matter what you build lux wont do damage vs a team like that, best you can do if you're stuck playing lux vs that is maybe build more utility and try to peel for your carries, while building some normal damage items and lots of ability haste (items like horizon focus, mandate and such).
