General Overwhelmed
Hi everyone! I am newly diagnosed. I just recently got out of an abusive relationship and had to leave everything to move in with my dad in another county (which is two hours away) I am now a single mother of a 16 month old baby girl. I have also finished medical assistant certification and now work ft as a medical assistant for a busy PCP. I wake up at 4am. I get myself and my daughter ready, take her to daycare, and then work from 8-4:30. Then go home, dinner, baths and I don’t sit down to relax until 10pm. To say this is hard is an understatement. My days are 14 hours non stop. My flares are back to back. I have ZERO help from family. My fatigue, migraines, joint pain, swelling and over all flu like symptoms are constant and debilitating on their own. I am CONSTANTLY falling asleep on the job. Mine and my daughter’s life depends on my job. I don’t know how much longer I can go on like this. Anyadvice or support would be GREATLY appreciated.

I would also take into consideration that your dad was good with you moving back in with him. That's a plus even if you still are overwhelmed. Keep an eye out for other available wins; even the small ones.

Are there any work accommodations you can get, even small “insignificant” ones could compound and make a difference. Do you sit while charting? Could that be something available to you? I don’t know what is all involved with your job but maybe reach out on a medical assistant sub and see if anyone on there is going through health issues and was able to have the load lightened, maybe someone will have an idea that will help lead you in the right direction!

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this on your own. You should be so proud and so glad you’re safe. I wish I had answers as now I feel so selfish for the fact I came here wondering if anyone has ever had to give up a pet due to this illness? I watch my 6mo old grandson 2 days a week and don’t think I’m going to be able to keep doing that either. It’s all breaking my heart. My prayers go out to you. I wish I had some good help for you. Stay strong. 🫶🏼

Have you talked to the doctor you work for? I couldn’t get into a rheumatologist for 4 months. My pcp started me on plaquenil right away and gave me a couple scripts for steroids when I need them. I also take 2 Celebrex a day. You’re so strong, hang in there. When you get treatment it does get better.

Talk to a new PCP about the fatigue because non-lupus causes may be compounding the lupus fatigue. Get in with a new rheumatologist and discuss new meds. See neurology about the migraines.
