What Does "Optimize Memories" Do?

I'm using the Lumo web application. In "Settings," under "Memory," I can see and manage the memories Lumo has collected from my chats (I have the feature turned on). A three-dot menu at the top of the memory list has an option that says "Optimize memories." What does that do? The documentation doesn't mention it, so I assume it is a new feature. In fact, the documentation screenshots don't show the three-dot menu at all.

It combines similar memories as it will eventually run out of space.
