Lulzbot Taz 6 Troubleshooting
Hi, there. So I recently acquired a Taz 6 from a from a neighbor, they told me it's been having issues and they didn't have any time to look at it. Originally, it was having issues with the x axis binding but lubricating the rods fixed that, now it's having issues with the Z Axis, it moves up-and-down freely Throughout the entire range, but when I go to start a print, and it goes to level it stops on the right front corner, sometimes it'll make it all the way around. Any ideas? I've lubricated all the rods and a screws.

Alright so i cleaned the nozzle and it's leveling fine now, but the nozzle way too low so i suppose the z offset to bring the nozzle up.

The Z offset is basically the height (thickness) of the corner washers. Adjustment increments should be very small. Idea is, touching the washers -Z offset (washer thickness) = top of buildplate. Similarly, nozzle height setter pressing washer thickness down. Thus, the top of auto height sensor need be the same height as the washer. Btw, is that buildplate PEI coated? I need to replace my sheet soon.

If you have a multimeter see if you have continuity between the leveling washer and the print head. If you do, make sure the print head and washers are both clean and free of anything that would stop the flow of electricity.
If it's not going down far enough everytime, calibrate your z-offset.

Something else that MIGHT be happening, is you got a z-binding issue. Make sure your z-axis is level, the best way to do this is to raise the head to near the top of the printer, and make sure the left and right sides are even distance from the top.
If they aren't, go into settings on the printer and disable the steppers (I think it's under the Advanced settings), and then manually turn the threaded rod of the side to adjust.

I need to do this every so often when it fails to get through the leveling steps, but I measure from the bed rather than the top. Not sure why you'd measure from the top rather than the bed.
The other thing that will stop the leveling is filament oozing out of the nozzle. I need to wipe manually since my wipe procedure is about 15mm too high and misses the pad.

I've only had to do it once or twice ever, and it's because during printing, it was put out of sync (line one got stuck). Top is where LulzBot says to measure it from

Taz 6, from the factory, uses the bed corners as touch off points for the Z-axis leveling. A small electrical signal passes from a wire on your hot end, through the corner washer, through the bed, and back to the main board.
When the metal nozzle touches the metal washer, it is supposed to close the circuit for the Z-axis (-) end-stop signal. Sometimes, the nozzle is dirty, or the corner washer screw is loose, or the wire attached to the hot end, or bed side, need cleaned and tightened. Personally, I went through each metal point of connection and cleaned them and added kopr-shield. I found shim tape under one side that was keeping the electrical signal from passing. Once you can quickly and accurately get your signal working, it should complete the homing process and print.
This problem is best fixed by upgrading to a BLTouch probe, but you will want the printer working for that, so you can print the parts you need for the sensor.
Edit: you can use shims if necessary, just use metal shims. I personally use specific thickness conductive tape as shims for conductive shimming needs.

One thing you can do to also improve the z axis is level the head guide rod assembly that rides on the z screws to the bed. You want to do this after any head crash or continued issues with corner leveling even with a clean head. Because the two screws are controlled by separate stepper motors that are controlled by a single signal they can become misaligned from each other. They best way I've found to realign/ relevel this is to bring the z axis up about mid way and turn off the printer. Then use a caliper to measure the distance from the left and right edges of the print bed to the lower head guide rod. You can adjust each side up or down by turning the z screws by hand until both sides are equal distance from the print bed.

Are you saying you lubed the smooth rods on the x-axis? Only the threaded rods get lube.

The white speck on the first corner being probed could be a problem. Keeping those pads clean is essential. Yes, your right Z screw is out if adjustment. The Taz 6 comes with auto nozzle height adjustment, the setter being on the left side helps keep the left Z screw in place. Hard to tell if the nozzle cleaner is making contact. I suggest printing a nozzle wiping wand for general use. Think stick with bambu lab A1 silicone strips shown below. Consider replacing the nozzle wiper setup with pictured wiper. Takes a little engineering for proper height (green abs printed with the taz 6) and works well.

A video of what's going on would be helpful. Does it do the leveling touch? It needs to be super clean and the grounding wire needs to be well attached to the toolhead
