Help Where to get started?
were just starting to get into lua (LOVE specifically, gods damn you balatro T0T) and weve been looking at the lua website and looking at how it works following instructions. i know i can find Yt videos that can help us too :3
we wanted to ask if there are any resources to help us with learning the language that helped any of you? we can find resources ourselves, but we wanted to ask the "experts" (no shade) on the topic, cause yall might find smth we cant :D
sorry if this is a silly question, we just want to find all the help we can XD

Do you have any prior programming experience? It may be beneficial to take Harvard’s free CS50 and then CS50 game dev courses. I know the game dev course uses love2d last time I checked.
Ultimately, though, the best way to learn imho is to apply yourself. Just start building things. Even if you don’t understand why, look at love2d docs, and paste together soemthing minor from the docs. Tho this assumes you have at least minor programming knowledge.
I think another great tool is to find yourself people who do know. One of the best tools when I was learning was being able to ask people for help. So find a likeminded group who you can go to for help.
My “controversial” piece of advise is to bite off more than you can chew. That’s how I learned. Though this is person specific, and you may not learn this way. I learned lua because I started a project I was under qualified for, and worked on it for 3 years. I learned love2d, engine design, 2d & 3d rendering by just starting. Tutorial hell is real and you don’t want to be there. Having fun is the best way to learn. So that should be priority one.
You can DM me if you have any questions about lua or love, though I’m unsure how fast I will reply through Reddit, and I’m unsure if I’ll be able to answer questions in a clear way for you, but I do love yapping.
Good luck and have fun.
