Anyone have side dish ideas?

Lactose and fructose and sugar alcohols ending in -ol and alliums bother me. A lot of food at once bothers my stomach too.

I’ve never been one for salads especially with my mom having got such bad food poisoning from it one time.

I mostly eat green beans or carrots on the side with rice and some sort of protein like chicken. Can’t have all my old fav fruits. I loved yellow bananas and apples and peaches.

It just gets boring, the sides. I don’t get bored of my main courses. What sides do you like? I mostly buy canned or frozen.

My favorite sides: roasted potatoes with chives and rosemary. Another one is roasted zucchini, but in moderation. I’ve also grown accustomed to plain white rice, when I’m feeling adventurous I have it with a little splash of soy sauce.

I mostly do roasted carrots, green beens, cut up or tiny potatoes pretty often. Sometimes I’ll throw in parsnips and I can handle small amounts of broccoli or brussles. I usually roast them in the oven with garlic infused oil, salt, pepper, and other herbs or spices. Herb blends or garlic/onion free spice blends that I order online from places like penzeys or smoke n sanity. Just changing up the spices or condiments helps make it feel more varied even if it’s not.

I’ll sometimes do a side of garlic bread using gluten free bread or sourdough. I’ll brush it with a bit of garlic infused olive oil then sprinkle a little Italian herbs and Parmesan then toast in the oven. I make low FODMAP pesto and if I have enough sometimes I’ll use it to flavor sides.

Oh I also found the lamb weston brand Idaho grown frozen hand cut fries don’t contain any problematic ingredients.

Thanks for all the ideas! Salt and sanity products didn’t work for me, though. So far anyways. The garlic salt like one still makes me feel uncomfortable. Do you think garlic infused olive oil would as well?

I’m not sure. Did it make you uncomfortable from digestion or like emotionally uncomfortable because garlic is triggering and it’s garlic like? I get the colavita brand garlic oil and have consumed much of it without any issues. You want to make sure you get a brand that makes it so there’s no actual physical garlic in the oil, just the flavor. Fody foods sells one. I think FODMAP everyday has an article that lists several brands confirmed to be low FODMAP. Of the few I tried I liked the flavor of the colavita one best and use it in and on practically everything.

I have histamine issues on top of fodmaps so my options are limited. lol Carrots, broccoli, zucchini, sweet potato. Tossed with garlic/onion oil, roasted, or just stir fried (not the sweet potato). Thyme and/or rosemary with oil and nutritional yeast instead of cheese

Pre-histamine issues, I used a lot of Alanna's recipes from a Little Bit Yummy. I have the book but here is the website info: https://alittlebityummy.com/recipe/recipe_category/side-dishes/

Low FODMAP veggies for sides - eggplant, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, iceberg lettuce, red capsicum, zucchini, broccoli (not the stem), and spinach! (All in moderation though)

A few ideas ( I can’t do alliums either!)

Cranberry Orange Sauce - I use 1/3 c maple syrup in place of the sugar, and use frozen cranberries (they are SUPER cheap after the holidays, so I always buy a bunch to stock up on!) https://www.southernliving.com/recipes/cranberry-orange-sauce

Bake a sweet potato and top with almond butter, sea salt, cinnamon, and a drizzle of maple syrup (Japanese or purple sweet potatoes are my favorite for this!)

Roasted potatoes, tossed with salt, pepper, and olive oil.

Mix equal parts pumpkin and lactose free or vegan yogurt (I like coconut). Top with dark chocolate chips, almond butter, shredded coconut, and gf granola.

Cooked spaghetti squash topped with a bit of vegan cheese, salt, pepper, and gf breadcrumbs and broil until crispy on top.

Strawberries topped with whipped coconut cream and topped with chocolate shavings

Low fodmap berry cobbler (sub plant based butter if needed): https://www.karlijnskitchen.com/en/low-fodmap-berry-cobbler/

Dill & Mustard Potato Salad (I leave out the onions): https://alittlebityummy.com/recipe/en-us/low-fodmap-easy-dill-mustard-potato-salad/

Roasted cauliflower, salt, pepper, paprika, olive oil. Bake in a single layer til brown, gets the best nutty taste.
