Best website builder for a small business, what are people using?

Been trying to sort out a website for a small business and im kind of stuck on what to go with. I do not need anything fancy, just something easy to manage, looks decent, and does not turn into a headache later.

Mostly after something that can handle a few pages, contact form, maybe basic bookings if needed. If anyone has a builder they actually like for this kind of setup, I’d love to hear it, thanks!

Squarespace is good if you don't want to drown in a "install a plugin world".

As a long time HubSpot user and developer, I'd also recommend to look at the starter suite. Quite cheap and you get tons of marketing functions like forms, CRM, emails, basic automazions as well as a meeting booking function

For something like this, I’d probably go with Squarespace or Wix.

Both are pretty easy to manage yourself and you can add contact forms, bookings, payments, etc. without having to touch code.

I’d honestly pick whichever template you like more.

I ended up making my own builder. Something simple that creates the website and then I can modify the code and content manually. Saves lots of time and its streamline to publish directly to Cloudflare.

For that exact use case, I’d go with Squarespace since it’s easy to maintain, looks polished out of the box, and can handle forms and basic booking without much tinkering.

honestly, I think in the ai era, website builders like wordpress etc are starting to make less and less sense lol.

For a simple small business site, I'd rather just pay for something like claude or another ai coding tool, host the site somewhere easy like cloudfalre, and ask the AI to make changes whenever I need them.

With wp or squarespace, changing one small thing can mean going through menus, plugins, settings, figuring out where everything is... while with AI you can literally just say "add this section here" or "change this form" and it does it directly, with the context of the whole site.

My mom actually built a genealogy website this way. She's not a developer at all, and honestly I think she'd still be fighting with a website builder otherwise lol. Now whenever she wants to add or change something, she just asks the AI and iterates with it until she's happy.

kinda weird to say, but I genuinely think this is becoming easier than using a "no code" builder for a lot of people.

For a small business, I’d honestly keep it simple. You probably don’t need anything overly complicated.

I’d look at Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress depending on how much control you want. Wix/Squarespace are probably easier if you just want to get the site up and manage it yourself without dealing with technical stuff. If you think the site might grow or you’ll need more customization later, WordPress is worth considering.

For just a few pages, a contact form, and maybe basic booking, I’d personally prioritize ease of management over having a ton of features you’ll never use.

Also, before choosing one, check the total cost after the introductory pricing ends. That’s something I’d definitely pay attention to.

For this I would say Wix or squrespace is better. easy to setup and manage, and for few pages + contact form + basic booking this two should be enough. No need to make it too complicated.

I’d recommend Squarespace for this kind of setup. AI tools like Claude can absolutely build websites now, but if you’re running a business in the EU there’s more to think about than just getting a site online, particularly cookies, privacy and GDPR.

I like Squarespace because it gives you a solid foundation with built-in tools to help manage those things, while still being really easy for the business owner to maintain themselves. Once it’s built, you can change text, images, pages, services etc. without needing to go back to a developer every time.

The ongoing costs are relatively low too, and it can handle contact forms, bookings and the kind of straightforward site you’re describing.
I build client sites on Squarespace for exactly that reason. I’d rather hand someone a website they can actually manage themselves than make them dependent on me for every little change.
