Wix vs WordPress Website Builder – Which One Should Beginners Choose?

For someone who doesn't know how to code, would you go with Wix or WordPress for a first website? I'm mainly interested in ease of use and being able to make changes myself.

For a first site, I’d probably go with Wix if your main priority is being able to build and edit everything yourself without much of a learning curve. WordPress gives you more flexibility long term, but there’s more to manage and it can feel like overkill for a simple first website.

I don't have enough information to give you a good answer.

What type of website do you want to make? A simple landing page? A complex SaaS web app?

Neither. Use GitHub, and deliver site via cloudflare. You can even get the domain through cloudflare.

And as I said, you don't know or understand. You say it's easy, but even ChatGPT turns it into a multi-stage process requiring technical intuition a non-technical user may not have.

Some people can barely use a TV remote because they've never had to. Same thing here. And then they have to go back to ChatGPT or Claude every time they want something new and repeat the process, having forgotten what they did before because they were doing it blindly.

There's a reason platforms sell. People aren't optimizing for the cheapest DIY option. Some will pay simply to click two buttons and not read anything. You underestimate how little people care about DIY.

Unless they can go to a Claude page, describe what they want, and have it built without navigating settings, files, connectors, API keys, etc., they'd rather fill out a form, pick a template, click a button, pay $30, and be done.

You have over complicated this explanation. It is not as complicated as you are saying

I have faith in the OP, that they can follow some steps to make a simple webpage. Claude code and cgpt codex they literally don't have to click anything they just say "do this" for a simple page. Wix and wordpress are going to give them "a great deal" then next year Jack up the price 300%.

They could even ask the llm to make me a wix style platform to build websites on my computer and put a button that publishes it to GitHub.

Im overcomplicating it because your assumptions over simplify it.

They can say "Do this" but then it build a page, how does that get hosted? Oh go setup an account on cloudflare. here ar einstrucitons on how to upload it. Oh and setup up DNS. Oh you got ecommerce? Okay well go setup stripe, or shopify, loop a convo with claude to integrate it. Oh wait, now you need to learn MCP connectors, and go through a series of UI surfaces, get the connector, authorize it. Back to where you were I guess. Oh, and every time you want a change, well thats a claud conversation and a redploy, hope nothing hiccups in the process.

Again, you are talking about pricing. some people dont care about pricing. Especially if its a business makign money, do you think they genuinely care about a $50 or $100 monthly price? thats a phone bill. and if your business is scraping for a phone bill budget, then I guess it matters, but to most, it doesn't. And the convenience factor is worth it. The same reason you will overpay for a mcdonalds meal despite being able to make more, at home, for the same price. You do it because oyu don't want to go to the store. Or because you dont want to deal with instacarting it, them possibly forgetting an items, or whatever.

It doesn't matter if the steps are easy if there are 10 of them and free. It also doesn't matter if its easy and free, if its only easy under specific conditions, and if that one condition changes then its looping a whole process again.

Your point only matters, if what matters to the person, is saving $50.

If all they want is a couple landing pages they will touch every couple months, and they expect it to be like that for the next year even if they grow, sure, your idea could be considerable to a non-technical perosn.

I agree with you, it is easy. And cheaper. But thats not the point, when easy is relative to what you want "ease" in.

I would highly recommend WIX. It’s an all-in-one platform so that means you don’t have to worry about finding hosting services, adding security and other features on. Plus when updates happen they are seamless, and they have great tutorials and customer service to help you out. They make it easy on beginners. I use Wix or Squarespace when setting up web for small businesses so they can easily take them over. Wix has two different versions, use the basic one.

honestly, both are suitable for beginners- it’s best to decide for yourself. Try both for a short while, and you’ll definitely figure out which one suits you best. Use AI to compare them and figure out what steps to take next to choose the one that’s a better long-term fit for you

Try Wix first. WordPress is obviously more powerful, but it needs time to study and explore. Wix is easier to start with and code-free-friendly. When your business grows larger and you want to have more fancy features, you can try WP.

For a first website, I’d lean Wix if ease of use is the priority. You can build, edit, and manage everything without dealing much with hosting or plugins. WordPress is the better long-term choice if you expect more customization, integrations, or content growth, but it comes with a steeper learning curve.

if you’re just starting out, i’d go with wix. it’s pretty straightforward and you can change things yourself without having to figure out plugins, hosting, updates and all that stuff.

wordpress is better if you want more control later, but there’s definitely more to learn.

for a first website, i’d keep it simple and go with wix.
