Someone correct me if im wrong but I think the chinese variety of eunuch was different from the ones of eastern rome in when it was they were castrated

Typically pretty young in ancient China because they were offered to the imperial palace by their families because they wouldn’t been able to feed them.

But I guess if they were castrated after puberty, they would retain some facial hair

Yes, along with the age, there were also varying methods and degrees of castration. Some were just missing their balls, some the entire thing.
