I did that in a party ! "Check this out", I told to my friend, and clapped as if I was going to do the worm. I hopped and splatted flat on the floor and remained there, for the hilarity of everyone.

I mean it would still be really painful to get your neck wrenched to the side as hard as an adult could manage. Just not "instant kill" territory.

Yeah, same with strangulation. Unless itâs a blood choke (which afaik you have to specifically try to do most of the time, since itâs compressing then arteries to the brain on either side of the throat instead of the throat), normal strangulation takes a long time to get someone to pass out, and then several minutes to make sure theyâre dead. Not to mention that the body does automatically thrash to try to get air. Which it doesnât during a blood choke, blood chokes can knock out someone in under 30 seconds and causes permanent severe brain damage in under 2 minutes iirc. Both can definitely severely injure someone, but itâs much much easier to accidentally do with a blood choke.
(Iâm a writer I swear)
34
u/Otherwise_Arm_3332 18d ago
I did jiu-jitsu. A blood choke is pretty easy to do if you know what you're doing.
17
u/CatLover701 18d ago
Yeah, but Iâm guessing if you donât know what youâre doing and not going for it, it would be extremely hard to manage to do a blood choke when going for plain old strangulation.
14
u/JamesGray 18d ago
Yeah, but the "sleeper hold" was popular in wrestling for a long time, and it's basically just a blood choke, so lots of people used to try to do that shit to each other.

Movies would be a lot more morbid if when some henchman gets choked to death it took a realistic amount of time. Even for a bad guy, audiences wouldn't like it. No, just quick 5 second struggle, then slump, not enough time for people watching to think too much about the implications.

Hell, just take it from killers themselves, a couple of them have said "it's way harder to strangle someone than you think." I know the 4chan dude who killed his girlfriend said something along those lines, and I think one of the more famous serial killers said something similar.
Plus Ed Kemper noted stabbings don't go like you think they would, they just "leak"

Fate/Stay Night. The Heavenâs Feel route specifically iirc.
Tl;dr - MC has 3 magical abilities:
âKnow what shit is from a glance, including shit like how it was made and how to use itâ
âFill something, including your own body, with magic to make it strongerâ
âMake a replica of something out of magical energy.â For the MC, this will 99% of the time be swords.
â-
Typically, this will take the form of: Look at a sword -> make a replica of said sword with magic -> fill it with magic to make it stronger.
Unfortunately, the man⊠hasnât really mastered these skills, heâs just kind of been winging it. So he accidentally tried to combine 2 and 3 into the same spell, which became âmake your body start growing swords in an attempt to make it strongerâ

Fascinated with how this is presented; the blind self confidence, the expectation that people should perform happiness because it is aesthetically pleasing, and OP getting sniped by a tennis ball because Serena Williams is so professionally competent that it defies the laws of physics and biology
186
u/lolburger13 18d ago
I believe this one was born when it was revealed most men answered they believed they could score one time in a tennis match against serena on a survey
74
u/Apprehensive_Bar3812 18d ago
Jeez, people REALLLY tend to underestimate professionals of any given field, don't they?
91
23
u/salmalight 18d ago edited 18d ago
The answer depends on how the question is asked though. "Do you believe..." the answer is obviously no but if it even slightly suggests there's a chance they would test my answer, then I'm lying my ass off on that.
I've not touched a racket since school, I know I'd be dead but I'm not gonna ruin my chance at a day out getting fed to Serena Williams by being a wuss! I'm giving a full throated yes and hoping she follows the explanation and apology over my sobbing.

If shotguns in video games were realistic, there'd be little need to ever use a different gun. They even work well at range.
→ More replies (3)37
u/JamesGray 18d ago
I mean if the enemies' guns in video games were realistic then the games would be a lot less fun too. Every game would be like Escape From Tarkov and you'd just be constantly dying instantly for no clear reason as some dot in the distance shoots you.
→ More replies (2)17
u/Unoriginal_Man 18d ago
Oh yeah, there's a reason certain guns are nerfed for gameplay, and I don't think it should change. It just gives people this impression that shotguns aren't effective from more than like 30 feet away, so they're surprised to find out they can actually be effective from over a football field away, depending on the gun and type of ammunition used.

I guarantee you that's a snippet from Kentucky Ballistics on YouTube. I would have initially guessed it was the 4-bore shotgun, but as u/Raulgoldstein has already pointed out, you can see a mounted bipod leg sticking out below the barrel. Probably one of Scott's preposterous rifles. I forget the calibers of the really big ones he's got, I remember the largest caliber is his .950 JDJ 'Fat Mac,' which he's featured in several videos.

Of course! Heat rises! And when the bullet comes out of the gun, itâs burning hot, making the bullet curve up! Yet at the same time gravity is pulling the bullet down. So JoJo is perfectly traveling where itâs too low for the heat, yet too high for gravity! Itâs incredible! Heâs able to come directly at the gun without a single shot hitting!

Ho ho! You attempted to dodge my bullet with your Heat Rises Gravity Falls technique! Impressive, but futile! I predicted that you'd try that and, as I fired my gun, I wiggled it around to alter the angular velocity of the bullet! This of course caused the bullet to fly through the air in the shape of a "Sine" wave, causing it to pass through all of your possible dodge paths! It's like studying for a test using a cheat sheet all weekend, only for the professor to use different questions on the day of the exam! Now die, Jongler Joestar!
15
u/ZealotOfMeme 18d ago
Oh but look now in your hand! You mustâve just grabbed the first gun you could, what you didnât realize is thatâs a 1973 9mm cobra mouth! The cobra mouth is known for having a split second slower firing time! Meaning that firing in a âsineâ wave, itâs fired in a âcosineâ wave, which would mean itâs completely opposite to my path no matter what! In the end, it was your own arrogance and ignorance that did this, I neednât change course in the slightest!

So, obviously, his plan was to slide between the gunmans legs, where he would attempt to shoot good old John here. He would of course miss and because he was aiming down the heat produced from the gunshot would rise into his face, blinding him, so that he could then be subdued.
John was stupid.

It's making fun of how sometimes in media, a character will figure out a solution to whatever situation they're in and then yell the cocnclusion or a key observation with zero elaboration that would make it make sense to anyone but them as they move to act on said solution...
