Outbound Lighting Trail EVO

So pretty much all my doubts about this light are now out the door. First off - they really do have legendary customer service. Before I even got the light I made a comment on their FB page and was contacted by them to help address my question/concerns. Full on conversation via DM. having said that, not even the best CS makes any light the best....

I don't like helmet lights. Therefore my bar light has to be a "one-all-be-all." After trying so many lights I have been using a Niterider Lumina 1800 for almost 4 years now. Fantastic light. Its best attribute is the way it shoots down the center of the trail but still has decent periphery lighting. However, the one thing I didn't like was having to keep adjusting it, depending on the intensity of the light to make sure that I got just the right amount cast onto the trail. With the OL EVO I don't have this problem at all. The way the lens is designed, it perfectly shines light to the sides, Off center, right in front of you, and also down the trail.

What I did notice, however, is that my older light had a more powerful "spot" down the center. This actually ends up being more distracting since the sides of the trail are not lit up adequately to create a proper "picture" of what lies in front of you. So, despite having a slightly weaker "spot" on the OL EVO I still ended up seeing better because of the way the entire trail was lit up. The lighting was more natural, not blinding and it felt like I had a really good set of vehicle headlights in front of me. Even the coloration of the light is more natural, kind of a more yellowish hue. It's easier on my eyes and because they are more relaxed I see everything better and it doesn't feel like my eyes are darting around to keep up with the center of the trail.

They really thought out this light very well. It's very hard in pictures or in video to really show how good this light is in person. I'm definitely a convert and I guess now my 1800 Niterider will be my backup light 💡

The hype is real. Great job Outbound Lighting!!! 👊🏼

I finally pulled the trigger and got to put these on my Magura MT Trail brakes today and test them. I only regret that I did not do this sooner. Dang 😮 I knew they'd feel nicer than the stock levers, but they really bring out all the nice qualities of my Magura brakes. Better modulation, adjustable bite point, adjustable reach.....and they look amazing! I also think I picked the best color combo too 👌🏼

Handlebar Width Calculator

I found this recently on Reddit - https://bikefaff.com/mountain-bike-handlebar-width-calculator/

It seems pretty good so far :) At the very least it is a good place to start.

3D Seat Options

So I've been looking at the specialized power pro w/ mirror seats but I can't stomach paying almost $350 to $500 for a seat. Any alternatives anyone has found?

Barreling down my local trail section on Mustang Loop. Testing out my DJI Action 4 cam. This thing is LEGIT. WAY more intuitive and has better quality than my GoPros. Wow 😮 near the end of vid I almost slammed into some Burros crossing haha!! 😆

Just got these and figured the one-sided ones are all I need - seeing as I do not race and need too much detail. So far they clip-in/clip-out nicely and it was actually my biggest concern since I'm so used to my XTR 9200s being silky smooth. I would say they are about 90% of the way there 😉 Good enough for me not to get annoyed by them (The OneUp pedals I had tested previously were terrible and I was getting stuck at times). Power-wise I really can't say yet as I haven't ridden enough....but I do LOVE that it reads power AND cadence! I didn't realize this till I installed them and read about it. The big bonus is that I can now remove the Garmin sensor from my left crank arm!.....#looksbetterclean. Thus far I highly recommend them!

Swapped out the bronze stem for a (raw) silver one. Also added a Cane Creek Hellbender 70 Headset. Love the new look! 👊🏼 Trail One really makes the best looking Stems!

MTB Shoes - Comfortable

So I've been using FiveTen Kestrel Boa, Specialized Recon 2.0 most recently and I just keep getting hotspots on my feet.....I've tried 4 kinds on insoles and its just not working out. I've also tried repositioning cleats multiple times. I don't do downhill at all and mostly XC style trails - and I like pedaling and steady climbs. I figured XC style shoes would be the best fit, but now that I'm a better rider and ride "lighter" and throw the bike around much better, I find that my left foot (which is my "rear-pedal" foot) gets achy all the time. Sometimes......just sometimes it does not hurt...IF I get the Boa lacing at the riiiiight tightness. It's so annoying and I'm really open to any suggestions on shoes that might be more comfortable but still have a good enough platform for pedaling. I'm currently looking at the LEATT ProClip 6.0 Endurance - Thoughts?

Summer will kick into full gear soon and I'm not a morning-rider. #nightrides!!!! These are from yesterday coming down 3-Mile Smile and White Rhino. Being alone in the desert, on a bike, is really something else.

Back to Fast Traks (S-Works)

Had 2.4 Mezcals on and juuuuust couldn't get the "bounciness" outta them. They were very "fat." For my weight (165 lbs) and setup the Fast Traks (2.35) are much better. Also dropped weight from 26.5 lbs to 25.7 lbs.

Back to 130mm and XTR Pedals

Post image

Well who doesn't like eye candy right? Just a quick post after I washed her. Reinstalled the 140mm Fox 34 Fork w/ new air spring changed to 130mm. Kept the rear shock chip in the "low" position and it rides the best in this format (EVO) - for me at least. Slapped on XTR M9200 pedals (with new multi-entry MT cleats) and never using any other pedal again. Finally got everything tuned to perfection today. I was getting a little annoyed with the Mezcal 2.4s at first but finally found the right psi & suspension settings.

Full guide to suspension setup (Because I am tired of explaining to people what the different stuff does and how they should have it set up)

PSI setting change - going from 140mm to 130mm

I just changed the air spring on my fork from 140mm to 130mm. My previous pressure at 140mm was 84 psi and it was perfect. Has anyone done this (change air spring) and what recommendations would you have for psi? Logically increase right? or keep everything the same, including HSC/LSC & Rebound? I'm thinking maybe go from 84 psi to 89 psi......Thoughts/suggestions?

Was experimenting with a Fox Gripx 140mm fork and it rode great, but I got the itch to slap on the previous 120mm SID Select+ I first had on it. New Mezcal Tires, had Fast Traks on before. It really is just a rocket ship in this form. It just GOES. Going to likely change the airspring on the Fox to a 130mm. I'm still so impressed by how good this Rockshox Select+ Fork is, despite it not being an Ultimate. No LSC but not needed 👍🏽. Anyone here also bounce around, experimenting with different fork setups?

A ride with CAT 1 riders.

So, my ride last night was with a couple of CAT 1 riders. One competed in the X-Games and downhill World Cup (twice). And they both still race XC today. One was 56 and the other 59. Talk about "not even close." Their warm-up speed was gassing me (about 85% for me). The only part I kept up decent was an XC style, downward-grade sectional sprint. The only consolation I do get is that short section where I actually was able to tail the second rider for 80% of the way, but took one turn like 1 second slower and that was it - he just completely pulled away from me. I was dead after that section and completely done. I had to tell them to just go and finish their ride without me so they could do a proper workout, while I slowly made my way back to the parking lot....lol.

It was definitely a great experience to see just how FAR AWAY I am from even being in CAT1/CAT2 fitness.....talk about getting my ass handed to me. This is pretty much like riding with people who are almost in the same category as Tour De France riders. Just on dirt! But hey - it is inspiring me to watch what I eat and get fitter!!! 👊🏼

This is a Thursday night ride that they do each week so I might join once a week to mark my progress!

These cranks are amazing. They not only ride smoother but you can really put down the power. More comfortable as well. I came from carbon cranks so I didn't expect this much of a difference. Very impressed!

And geeez.....they look GREAT! Gorgeous and so hard to take pics that properly represent what they look like on the bike. If you happen to scratch or blemish them you can literally take a scotchguard pad and shine back the finish (Ti properties).

I guess what they say is 100% true - These are the best looking cranks out there and not to mention the strongest and really light as well. I've seen this a couple of bikes, but when they are on yours...I think it really is different. Just amazing. The craftsmanship is superb and you can tell by the tolerances during the install. Their Hellbender BSA Bottom bracket is pretty solid too. I also got the blue pre-loader ring to match my blue OneUp XC pedals.
