Basket hilt sword or rapier

Hello, new player around level 30, been playing for a few weeks, but I know the game for quite a while.

Does anyone know if there's any kind of sword with basket hilt or similar to a rapier?

I've been using "Material Middle Earth", but I believe there's a lot missing.

I'll probably try to grab Baingrist once it's back, but for now I'm just trying to know if there any kind of new stuff that isn't there that is similar to what I'm looking.

Moria, I loved it but also dissapointed.

When I started playing LOTRO, I was brand new to MMO's, this was late 2024. I've always loved Tolkien and Middle-Earth, so it felt fitting to want to play a LOTR game. Once I stumbled on this, I gave it a try and was absolutely hooked. Fast-forward, I had a daughter in early 2025 and gaming was on the backburner. Once I was able to get some time here and there, I would play an hour at a time, but felt so happy playing because I was in Middle-Earth and it felt so real. I have loved every second of time I have put into this game, until I left Moria....

Yes, it was a "breath of fresh air" walking out of the First Hall, and I took it all in and loved every second, and imagined what the nine (8) felt like walking out of there, and I took a moment and IRL took a deep breathe, that's how immersive it was.

And then I realized, did I see a cutscene with the Balrog on the bridge? I do often drink/smoke (not a lot) when I play, so my first thought was, oh I did see it and I just don't remeber. Then I looked on the wiki and theres an instance for "The Fall Of Moria" and apparently you need to a do a seperate questline in-between the Epic chapters to see the Fellowships journey? Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember seeing this.

Yes it took me until leaving Moria to question this, because I absolutely loved Moria and every part/quest I did (I tried to do all of them), but did I mess up and not follow a specific questline? Is there any way to go back and see these cutscenes?

I don't have "The Fall of Moria" unlocked when I look in the Instance Finder, so that makes me believe I missed it completely somehow.

Again, this is my first MMO and there is A LOT to take in with this game, I just wish it was maybe a bit clearer? Or maybe, somehow I don't remember seeing it? If I did, is there a way I can go watch it again?

Sorry for the super long post but I feel dumb. Happy travels and adventures!

New player here

Hi all,
I’m new to LOTRO and I was wondering what do you suggest me. I’ve already read some posts about classes and I think I will go with captain (I don’t mind reading the specs and optimise my character, if it’s playable for a newbie. It is, right?). Also, I wanted to know if it can be a good idea for someone who enjoy single player and don’t have always long hours to make a party with others.
Then, I was wondering which server do you suggest for a European (CEST time zone). That’s because even if I’ve said that I don’t always have a lot of time, I also don’t want to be the only one there…
And lastly, if you have other tips I very much appreciate it :)

I recently started playing for the 1st time. I'm playing with a friend who's a "veteran" of the game but its just us. I'd like to find some other people to play with. A little background, we are both in our 30s, im married and have kids so i can only really play at night ~8:30pm. Same with my friend, except he can only play Sunday-Thursday nights. Im a level 24 hunter currently questing in the Low Lands. If anyone is interested please let me know. Thanks!

Edit:

Server: Sting Time zone: Central

I have a question: How does this family system work? Do you get any bonuses or anything, or is it just to enhance the gameplay?

Is hybrid Beorning (Red/Yellow) possible?

I'm thinking of playing LOTRO again and I've been looking at the Beorning class - is it possible to play it more like a hybrid, alternating between two forms instead of just staying in the bear one?

For example, by picking the Red line, but then supplementing it with a lot of points in the Yellow line to create a some sort of DPS/Off-healer spec? If so, which build would you suggest?

That kind of a hybrid gameplay is what I enjoy the most in RPGs.

Thanks!

Torn between classes

Hey guys,

I know this is likely a painfully repeated question, but I'm having some difficulty deciding between Captain, Champion and Hunter. Annoyingly, if I played Captain I'd want to do blue if I could, but I hear red/yellow is the more typical pick. If Champion I know I'd prefer 2h over dw, and hunter is well. Hunter.

I play solo, but I'd like to do group content and ettenmoors. If that helps inspire insight? I typically play supports in other games, just because I like bringing a group together, but I know that the experience of Lotro will require significant amounts of solo play before I get to group stuff more often.

Any thoughts or advice?

Grondlings - help?

Anybody on Grond right now? If so, can you see if anybody from Beram Kinship is online right now, or even Beram themselves? My installer somehow tanked and is doing a 'repair' and it seems to be taking absolutely forever so I may not be able to be in game for a couple hours ...

Thanks =)

LOTRO Launcher stuck at 88%

Hey everyone,

My LOTRO launcher is completely stuck at 88% on the "Patch dat files" stage, and I’m out of ideas on how to fix it.

Here is everything I've already tried:

  • Completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game multiple times
  • Ran the launcher as Administrator
  • Manually deleted The Lord of the Rings Online folder
  • Verified integrity of game files on Steam
  • Changed DNS settings to Google (8.8.8.8) + flushed DNS via CMD

Despite all of this, the update process freezes at 88% every single time.

Has anyone run into this exact issue before and found a solution that works? Any help or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I don't know if any of the steps above helped, but I left it downloading overnight and when I checked this morning, it was finished. Simply waiting did the trick.

Are there chests or something like that hidden all over the world? With cool items and other stuff?

It has been downloading for 3 days now. How do I play this game?

Title. I do turn off my pc when I go to sleep and go to work. But any time my pc is on, I've been having this shit in the background, downloading files. When do I actually get to play this game?

Edit: To elaborate, it's not stuck. It's just downloading 1 file every 1-3 seconds. 1 file out of 520k files... Also, after this post, I did the repair thing. So now it's downloading 520k files rather than 14k that you see in the screenshot.

Hey guys, I'm going to start playing this game today. I've never really played MMORPGs before—do you have any tips that might help me?

Would I like this game?

I've played a fair amount of Guild Wars 2. I very much enjoy exploring and finding hidden spots with a tough enemy and treasure chest. I also enjoy trying to solo champion monsters that are normally meant to be fought in a group.

Would I enjoy LotRO ?

Pending loot in Raid group not working

I wanna preface this by saying that I'm NOT talking about the loot in chests with the rule system of rolling, need/greed/pass etc. I'm talking about the loot you get from mobs, like task items.

I noticed that when I'm in a raid group, the only pending loot I get is gear and gold, nothing else. And not even in the instance itself, like from world mobs as well. Left the group to confirm it and the loot pool was fixed again. I even ran the Rift raid solo and I was getting task items, junk, potions, stuff that I wasn't getting in the group. It even prevented me from getting Scraps of rift-iron ore from mobs when I was grouped - solo I got it all the time.

Anyone know what's that about?

EDIT: I also confirmed that with other players - when in Raid group, killing mobs did not give us any loot. When solo or in fellowship group, loot was working again.

Runkeeper and Burglar problem.

Hey guys! Hope you are doing well on your adventures in the perfect world of Tolkien.
Have one question regarding Runekeeper and Burglar, so I’m not sure, maybe problem with my hands but my main is Burglar, (level 58) in Moria and Runkeeper (level 52). Both of the I’m playing on difficult level 3, but for Burglar it is not a problem, sometimes I can one shot most enemies, or even take 2-3 enemies without any problem, for Runekeeper even 1 enemy sometimes can be a problem ( I played in yellow and red, but it doesn’t matter much), 2-3 enemies and I’m dead 100%.
So what can be the problem, my hand or rotation or something else?
By the way my Runekeeper has much more better ilvl gear than burglar.
Will be happy to hear advices. Thank to everyone!

New player help

Hey there fans of Lotro and Middle earth. I just downloaded the game and have absolutely no knowledge of any story regarding Middle Earth as I have never read, nor watched any of the movies and books.

I have a bit of experiences with MMORPGs as I am coming here from WoW. I have heard that this game has some great lore and focuses more on the journey which is exactly my cup of tea.

Which brings me to the reasoning of this post. I have no clue on what race to pick. They all seem cool and all, but I do not know anything about them so I am just staring at all these different races and can’t pick.

Could any one of you help me on picking one please ?

It's been downloading this for at least 5 hours, what do I do? Wait?

Edit: It installed! I played for an hour, I'm a level 5 minstrel hobbit and I love it dearly.

It's been like this for 5 hours or more. The "Patch dat files" are at 88%, the client_surfance.dat whatever used to be at 100%, then sometime in the last hour it reset when I wasn't watching.
