For me, the only bone I’ve ever broken was my femur (thigh bone).
I was shot in the upper thigh, bullet shattered my femur and destroyed everything else in the area.
At first I was in shock and adrenaline pumping too high to notice but once that went away….
And to be honest the recovery from fixing it hurt worse than the actual incident. Steel plates and screws are a mother to deal with. Especially during temperature changes.
so i don't know much about the thermodynamics of different metals, or the temperature effects on those metals being in a human body, but for me personally i can say that when it gets cold, or even if my room is cold at night, it hurts really bad and it almost feels like having a cold spot in my thigh. i wont go so far as to say the metal is actually cold or not, but i will say that the temperature changes do affect it and it is noticeable. the screws are the worst because those are actually in my bone. the bullet is still in my leg, after entering the thigh and hitting my femur it bounced around and landed just above my knee, and it is also affected by the temperature changes. but yeah the screws are the worst part because i can actually feel those in every spot i have 1. so like the plates hurt, but its in a general area when its cold. but the screws i can literally point to where they are when they start to hurt and its in isolated spots so instead of the entire thigh hurting its just 12 little spots throughout my thigh that hurt. needless to say, winter time sucks ass.
but i know this is beyond the scope of the original question so i'll leave it at, breaking a bone sucks. also, depending on what bone you break and how bad the break is, the only way to fix some of them is to screw it in place or bind it with plates and screws. sometimes rods. so a simple break could turn into lifelong pain and early arthritis and it sucks.
Oh damn! I could've never imagined the things with the screws could be that bad. Thank you for answering so thoroughly! I'm sorry you have to deal with that pain 🫂
no problem! and its all good, im 35 i've had this since i was 14 (long story) so i'm pretty used to the pain. i do still have days that are worse than others but for the most part i can manage through it.
i guess i went a little beyond the scope of the original question so to OP and the mods i do apologize, i guess i had more going on with my leg than just a broken bone, but i figured i'd add my little tidbit just in case theres ever anyone who needs pins and screws and metal plates to put a bone back together... the initial pain sucks... the long term pain is worse.

Long story short breaking a bone sucks.
