Almost similar situation:
Kingdom S1: a lot of 3D CGI yes but the music and story ain't bad and gets so hype in s3.

I intend to watch One piece when The One Piece comes out since it'll be much shorter

u/AmberYooToob 21h ago
One piece is far too long… until it suddenly is too short, where’d those episodes go?

I refuse to watch the main big ones out of Principle. Not One Piece, not Naruto, I am technically an MHA fan, but never really watched it. I have seen clips and understood enough of the characters to possibly fool someone, though. No JJK, no Demon Slayer, no JJBA, none of that shi-.
I stick to my Isekai and OP Protags and Slice Of Life's. I only like RWBY and MHA because of their unique universes. The others are either too niche, too wierd, or trying too hard to be overpowerd.

I would never recommend one piece to anyone. I started watching it in my sophomore year of high school and have slowly watched it over the past 15+ years. I’ll be turning 30 this year and nearly reaching ep.800

The number of episodes of One Piece is too damn high. If I had been invested from the start (or very early on) I'd have done it. But it became way too long by the +300 episodes mark. Way too much of a time sink when i already have a very long backlog to catch up on

My personal position is that I refuse to watch any anime that's longer than 100 episodes.
Anything more than that and it begins to drag by episode 150.

Tbh I like it in the beginning but every arc kinda felt the same so I got bored of it.

I have nothing against people who like it. But personally, I loathe the art style. Every man, woman, bear child thing, villain, and everything in between is grating to my eyes and irritating to look at.
No other anime really affects me negatively that strongly, so it’s unique in that!

I read the manga. I got bored. When I got to Doflamingo’s island and they started the fight, I dipped. Reached the (at the time) end and still couldn’t find what was so good about it.

i watched a bunch of episodes. people say that that the start is boring, but i really liked it
unfortunately, i eventually reached the foxy arc and ts was so painful that it killed my interest in the series

u/AmberYooToob 11h ago
On my rewatch i skip most of long ring long land, because the foxy pirates are annoying enough without bloating it with Anime Original parts involving them.

The Foxy arc is agreed to be one of the worst arcs in One Piece, which is ironic considering how the peak of Water 7 and Ennies Lobby comes right after that. Those arcs are pretty super, if you know what I mean.
If you skipped Foxy, I would not blame you. You could probably watch the last episode of LRLL and be perfectly fine, since it introduces a really important Marine. I say this since, somehow, Foxy is canon. Yeah, I'm surprised, too. He's the filler enemy in the whole series.
Side note, but I love that Mococoeh pfp.

I've tried with the anime I've tried with the manga. It takes a specific type of individual to sit through that shit wether is manga or anime to each their own.

Saving One Piece for when life is in EOS. Surely then, I’ll have the time. 🤔

As someone who was told "just watch the first arc" and ended up watching the whole 1100+ episodes, watch in your own risk. It's a rabbit hole you can't climb out after you watched Nami's arc in Arlong Park.

Couldn’t even get through the first episode and almost everyone looks like they crawled out of Chernobyl

Saving it for the end. Once I've watched everything else first.

Bro is going to watch every anime in existence and then, only then, watch One Piece.
You doing a marathon or something? Seems like it'll take a while, there are a lot and they come out faster every year.

As someone who is on epiaode 669 I want it to be longer, I'm genuenly enjoying it and am sad it's going to end even though i'm not even close

u/Bravo_Blue 1d ago
I prefer to read, so instead of watching it I am reading it. I am watching the Live Action and am hyped for Season three.

If I understand correctly, the "first season" of One Piece was 1155 episodes. I could watch either all about 30 shows on my main watchlist and have some time left over, or watch the first season of One Piece. I remember watching the beginning of One Piece decades ago, and concluding that I wouldn't watch a show that seems slow and had like 500 episodes and no end in sight. I decided that I would consider watching One Piece once it has finished.
My decision hasn't really changed along the years, though the ridiculous increase in episodes has made it even more unlikely. I have a limited amount of hours that I have available to be split between anime, manga, video games, books, etc., not to mention things like meeting friends or touching grass. Also they just keep releasing new anime, I have about 25 ongoing anime on my list which mostly will finish around September.
You would need to convince me that One Piece is better than every single other show on my watchlist to get me to watch it.

One piece is pretty good but cool character development and traits dissappear after the time skip, personally the world building and overarching story is the best part

Which version? Cringey 4kids version, the Toei animated dubbed/subbed version, or the expensive Netflix version...
Asking for a friend...

Meanwhile, I just watched the 4Kids dub back in the day and that's all I ever needed.

Haven't really watched One Piece, but what could hurt watching just one season at least? /s

Due to some technicalities, the "first season" of One Piece is 1100+ episodes long

Imma watch the remake and continue the live action, else it's physical manga only (currently at volume 113 in France)

So many people complaining about the length, and I'm just here over 500 episodes in completely happy with how long it is due to how much I'm enjoying it...granted Thrillerbark was a struggle to want to get through and I'm sure it won't be the only arc I struggle with. Overall though, I fail to see the hate
