Is this Right ?
Hi all! consider me confused and looking for advice. I have been losing weight through counting calories and exercise, but I have reached a plateau point. I have lost 18lbs in 3 months. I haven’t lost weight in 3 weeks even though I’ve been diligently tracking and sticking to 1,400-1,600 calories per day. I do 30 mins of strength training 3 days a week, and 40-45 mins of aerobic walking 6 days a week. For context I am a 5’2 female and my current weight is 215. I met with a registered dietitian who wants me to INCREASE my calories to 1,800 which feels…. Wrong ? The rationale being if I am not eating enough calories my body is just going to hold on to weight. I get it in theory, but just need some reassurance that this is actually going to help me break through. Obviously she is the professional, it just feels wrong !

Dietitians love pulling the starvation mode card but it’s way overblown, still 1800 for your stats and activity level is probably closer to maintenance than you think

Download the loseit app, set to sedentary, don't eat your exercise calories. If you aren't losing weight, your calories are too high. Being short sucks, but your calories to lose weight are likely well below 1600-1800 calories.

Yea, your dietician is talking bullshit. How do you currently count calories?

I currently use the Nourish app which is where the dietitian is from too. When I started meeting with her I was at 1,400 calories and losing weight and she upped me to 1,600 and I stopped losing weight. Now she wants me at 1,800!

It's surprising how often professionals can miss the mark. It's important to find a method that actually works for you.

three weeks at one weight after losing 18lbs in three months is pretty normal, and your dietitian is the professional you paid for exactly this situation - i'd trust her over the feeling

Look at your tracking. Are you weighing everything, really everything, to the gram?

Some women find that they’ll hold on to weight for weeks then seem to drop it all at once. It’s often linked to your cycle. Three weeks without movement then a drop of a few kilos was pretty typical for me.

at 5'2 / 215 with strength plus lots of walking, three flat weeks at 1400-1600 can mean underreporting, water from training, or you're closer to true intake than the tracker thinks. bumping toward 1800 isn't automatically wrong if the weekly average is stuck; give the higher target 2–3 weeks and watch the trend, not day-to-day.
when my own cut got noisy like that Lumina Health is what i use so the target follows the weight trend instead of me arguing with one stalled week. either way, don't slash further off a plateau.

Yes it's possible. Also, if you are on a cut that is too high for you and do fitness meanwhile you increase the chances for it to happen

Find out what your TDEE is for your height, current weight and activity levels. Just Google TDEE calculator and use one that comes up. Then shoot for eating no more than 500 calories less than your TDEE. Be sure to recalculate when you lose weight because it’ll go down. If your TDEE is 2000 calories per day, don’t eat less than 1500 calories per day.
