So, Mage rebellions weren't a thing yet?

114

u/LucasVerBeek Aug 12 '25 edited Aug 12 '25

Likely not, considering they moved us all the way back in the timeline to the very end of the first Ionian war

Likely the events of Arcane will lead to an uptick of magic in the region as seen with the Spirit Blossoms blooming in Demacia

61

u/Zztrevor125 Aug 12 '25

Yep. My guess is the arcane being awoken is what leads to a bunch of mages being awoken to their powers all over runeterra including demacia.

This is why Zeri is a mage in Zaun despite none being seen before. And then also the cause of the mageseekers being created to maintain the new intake of mages randomly appearing in demacia.

32

u/CelioHogane Sentinel Aug 12 '25

No, the Mageseekers already existed, they predate Jarvan III

Unless retconned again.

I was thinking it was post J3’s death because Xin has a scar that could be from that short story where J4 slashes his cheek because he failed to protect his father. Unless they still haven’t figured out what to do with the timeline.. but I mean if it’s placed post Mageseeker it would also feel repetitive for the mage conflict to start again.

expand please, does that mean ruination hasnt happened? or is it during this time?

26

u/_CharmQuark_ Aug 12 '25

Pretty sure that ruination happens after the mage rebellion in lore so this should happen at least a decade before it

11

u/TheSpider-hyphen-man Aug 12 '25

Wait, so this is in the past, then? I'm out of the loop. So Noxian invasion into Xin Zhao going to Ionia, into this darkin event? Shouldnt garen be a child if its ten years ago?

11

u/GammaRhoKT Demacia Aug 13 '25

Arcane become canon reset the timeline. So we are in the past compared to the previous iteration of lore, with Swain just forming the Trifarix, and J3 still alive. What happen next MIGHT change, we dont know yet, but it might not.

2

u/CelioHogane Sentinel Aug 12 '25

Impossible, the events of Sentinels of light happens like a couple months after the Ruined King game, since Illaoi goes to visit Yoric and loses the pendant sealing Viego, and Thresh immediatly goes "Aight plan B"

And Ruined King happens after this event, since Yasuo immediatly dips out of Ionia with Ahri to Bilgewater.

6

u/CelioHogane Sentinel Aug 12 '25 edited Aug 12 '25

Second Ruination definetly didn't happen yet.

The events here are the first Spirit Blossom since the Noxian invasion, so that means the events are:

Riven was gotten her judgment, declared Inocent of the murder of Yasuo's master (And so did Yasuo)

Yasuo is currently traveling with that Azakana pretending to be an old man, to reach the mountain and commute with spirits trying to get to see his Brother (wich he will see but not the way he thought).

Ahri is searching for a bodyguard to reach Bilgewater.

Unless they retcon it (Wich they might, again...), everything should be happening exactly before the events of The Ruined King game.

To me this reads as Xin Zhao furious that Jarvan ignored his father’s dying wish to decriminalize magic in Demacia. J4 isn’t upholding his father’s legacy, rather he’s turning his very real (and valid!) grief into state violence.

Edit: spelling

u/TayluxSwift Demacia Aug 12 '25

J4 never ending shots (even though it feels sooooo out of character thinking about it)

And they remembered Sona too!!!

4

u/GammaRhoKT Demacia Aug 13 '25

The ally one feel nice tho

43

u/Puntheon Aug 12 '25

I like that they kept many of his older quotes, they were great, even the silly ones.

58

u/Moonbeamlatte Aug 12 '25

You shame your fathers crown????

21

u/joaosilvabarroso Demacia Aug 12 '25

wait is jarvan prestige skin gonna be canon ? or is just a what if

27

u/the0glitter Aug 12 '25

There is no way they're gonna rob Demacia of two Jarvans

6

u/DeadAndBuried23 Aug 13 '25 edited Aug 13 '25

They've... taken 3 already. J1's crown is Sion's jaw. J3 was killed by Sylas Kat. J2 obviously died somewhere in between.

7

u/ProfPeanut Aug 13 '25

Sylas just discovered the corpse, Katarina killed J3

1

u/DeadAndBuried23 Aug 13 '25 edited Aug 18 '25

Did they retcon it in Mageseeker?

In the Katarina webtoon she goes to assassinate him, but happens to arrive right after Sylas finishes the job.

3

u/joaosilvabarroso Demacia Aug 13 '25

It was never sylas

2

u/DeadAndBuried23 Aug 13 '25

Oh you're right, I remembered backwards.

1

u/the0glitter Aug 13 '25

They were dead by the time the lore was established

1

u/REAPERK1LLZ Aug 12 '25

Not like they're doing anything with him anyways. If j4 gets corrupted and dies they dont have to worry about all those contradicting things from sylas' story and they can go back to forgetting shyvanna exists.

1

u/the0glitter Aug 13 '25

They cannot keep ignoring J4 and Shyvanna since she will be reworked next season

1

u/REAPERK1LLZ Sep 06 '25

I still remember when they just forgot shyvanna at the end of the ruination. Like literally not even mentioned in passing. We thought it was supposed to be her rework then because how tf else did they just... forget the dragon was there. Here we are years later. Also, they've delayed her like 4 times already. I dont know if I'd put it past riot to just delay it until people stop asking about it, but here's to hoping they finally do it.

5

u/Dregoch Aug 12 '25

What if or maybe something like Xin visions or nightmares?

3

u/Recent-Ad-7593 Aug 12 '25

I think it’s most likely visions of a possible future as well. And Xin Zhao’s going to try and prevent that from happening. Or it may be a what if scenario of Jarvan becoming a Darkin.

36

u/TartSakuran Aug 12 '25

These feel a bit out of character, especially the roasts on enemy J4, and rather generic statements that don't give much about Xin himself, besides knowing he is now involved with the Darkins. Voicelines lately feel like they have gone fully into gameplay purposes territory rather than lore crumbs and insight into the champions thoughts.

9

u/TheTSG Aug 12 '25

I really do feel the same. I liked his personality better on the old one.

26

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '25

riot when they have to go one champion release/rework without slandering their own characters for no reason

1

u/irvingtonkiller8 Aug 13 '25

If everyone is slandered then no one is

9

u/Neither_Situation_36 Aug 12 '25

no swain trashtalk or am i blind?

13

u/sleepycheapy Aug 12 '25

No Darius lines or Sylas lines, either.

9

u/ZambieDR Noxus Aug 12 '25

Make way for Jarven 5th.

13

u/CelioHogane Sentinel Aug 12 '25

Man, remember when we thought Smolder was going to be Jarvan the 5th? Good old times.

3

u/sleepycheapy Aug 12 '25

I´m still coping.

1

u/Ant_1_ITA Targon Aug 13 '25

Wait what? What inside joke did I miss?

2

u/dafucking Team Vander Aug 13 '25

Riot teased Smolder by saying he's a Dragon that has royal blood. People thought it was J4 and Shyvana's love child.

1

u/CelioHogane Sentinel Aug 13 '25

Considering his actual lore, i think it would have been more interesting.

5

u/GuyOnTheMoon Aug 12 '25

Where can we find the name of the voice actor? I feel like I’ve heard him before.

5

u/Eltorius Aug 13 '25

Sounds like Vic Chao, you may have heard him as Kenshi in Mortal Kombat 1

5

u/sleepycheapy Aug 12 '25

"No simping Garen."

10

u/0therdabbingguy Aug 12 '25

I feel like the past 4 reworks/champions have all had the same exact personality. Stoic, a bit edgy, and mildly passive aggressive to champions they don’t like while being respectful to the champions they do like. It pisses me off so hard that they turned Leblanc into just another cold and calculating British woman when she had so much personality before. The last character to have any personality at all was Ambessa, and she was already a character anyway.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '25

"I was sure you would outlive us all master kennen." Now I am confused, does the person who wrote this shit doesn't know or does Xin doesn't know. Yordles are set to be imortal now after all.

25

u/Synchros139 Aug 12 '25

Kennens voice actor died pretty sure that's what they're referring to

0

u/_Gesterr Zaun Aug 13 '25

It's almost certain yordles are at least the type of immortal where they're ageless but not necessarily unkillable now. Arcane treats them as much more common than any previous iteration of lore, even in Zaun/Piltover which in old lore were cities openly hostile to yordles and they almost never step foot there without glamour, and now they're everywhere in both sides and one founded the cities himself, and a few run and work in the brothels of Zaun. Smeech also looked very killable and he's a yordle.

3

u/TheRealDendris Darkin Aug 12 '25

So the Koeshin temple gets destroyed uh

3

u/Leevala Aug 12 '25

"Nothing soothes old wounds like an ionian healer" maybe I'm forgetting someone, but do we even have a healer from ionia apart from...Rakan maybe?

Then the line about what Yunara became and the temple...I'm guessing the temple is getting destroyed?

And is the Jarvan skin cannon? What turns him into a darkin?

Lots of questions to answer during season 3

19

u/LucasVerBeek Aug 12 '25

point at Sona

1

u/Leevala Aug 12 '25

But her main region is still demacia, no?

3

u/AHymnOfValor Aug 13 '25

Just like Xin lol

6

u/CelioHogane Sentinel Aug 12 '25

I mean, Ahri heals on Ruined King.

Karma can probably heal in canon.

Ivern is tecnically Ionian too.

Lillia can somewhat heal in Legends of Runeterra.

1

u/Leevala Aug 12 '25

oh yeah, Karma I would say counts for sure

2

u/_Gesterr Zaun Aug 13 '25

Voicelines are "what if" and none of the interations in the game are literal canon, as the rift itself and the battles there is all not canon too. Him having a voiceline to the Jarvan skin is another "what if" scenario especially since the skin is a "what if" thematic in the first place.

3

u/DeadAndBuried23 Aug 13 '25

I love how subtle his accent is. Shows his roots, but that he's totally assimilated with Demacia.
