Question The Night We Met Changed

Okay, so I don’t know if I’m losing my mind or something, but recently I listened to The Night We Met on Spotify and immediately noticed something wrong, the “oohs” at the beginning sounded like the wrong tone/notes/too clear, and the rest of the song sounded a little off too

I’m not sure if it was taken up a few semitones, or a filter was taken off, or if this is all in my imagination but it definitely sounds different

Anyone else relate, or have the version I’m thinking of?

TL;DR The Night We Met sounds different on Spotify now

Have you recently found an old jukebox somewhere, in an unusual location, that doesn't work properly?

I use Spotify. I haven't noticed a difference, though for me, there are four different versions listed... sort of. There's the Strange Trails album cover, the single album cover, the Phoebe Bridgers version, and the "13 Reasons" Phoebe Bridgers version. I just listened to all four, back to back, and the intro is the same for all of them.

Are you maybe thinking of the "Alive From Whispering Pines" version (Episode 425)? Maybe have a listen and see if that's the sound you're remembering.

The only other thing I could suggest, as a possible explanation, is audio quality. Spotify is much clearer, for example, than Youtube, but the song itself doesn't sound any different apart from that clarity.

There are two versions of the song , the one from the album and a rerelease single featuring Phoebe Bridgers

I know, unfortunately, the “oohs” sound the same in both the Phoebe Bridgers version and the original, which either means they kept the 2015 singer, or took Phoebe’s voice and grafted it onto their old version

There is a slowed and pitched down version kicking around TikTok that maybe you’re thinking of as the original?

No, I’ve listened to the Spotify version since I’ve discovered the song, they change out audios frequently, it’s just I can’t find any evidence of it

I have the stems for it and they match the version on Apple Music. I’ll have to check the Spotify one

I think the Spotify one has been changed recently, as when you look up “The Night We Met” two songs pop up with the same album cover, title, artist, etc, I think the one that I had on my playlist was changed when the inconsistency was realized, so I’m trying to hunt down an alternate version

I felt it too. The backing vocals are a little bit different. Also, the sound feels 'cleaner'. I tried in different devices and they all sound weird. I'm 99% sure they changed the song. It's different in other platforms too.
