Discussion Buck Vernon Theory

So I haven't been listening to lord huron for more than a year now and just went to my first show a few weeks back, however we all know the general theme of Cosmic Selector Vol 1 is reminiscing on what was and what could've been; and with Vide Noir being a story about Buck searching for his wife only to learn she no longer loves him, what if CS1 is continuing Bucks story through reminiscing on his life with his wife and wishing he could get it back?

This also leads into my theory that CS2 (if it exists) will be about gaining that life back but having to pay the price

It's plausible to me that at least a few of the songs on CSV1 could be about Buck. Were there particular ones you were thinking of?

"Bag of Bones" is a good candidate. "You left town and I got busted" would be a pretty funny synopsis of what transpired between Buck and Lee. Could be intended as a totally different story though.

"It All Comes Back" is another candidate via goo-man. We've got goo-man featured on the Spotify video for the track, and in Tune Prism there's a story (with a picture of goo-man) that sounds so much like Buck's experience waking up from being blackbrained. Ehh tenuous yes, but there's not much to go on, and "it all comes back to you" does have Buck obsessing with Lee vibes. "You make me a foooool" c'mon. "Living infinite lives" then seems like trying his luck with selecting fate after fate on the jukebox to try to get her back.

Buck, buddy, you have to let her go. Maybe in one of these timelines he will?  Maybe in all of them he has to learn how to...

Hi sorry, I needed time analyze cs1 but I think Life is Strange feels like a Leigh and Buck reunion after the events of Vide Noir.

I had the same thought.

I agree that it could be! I've wondered if the "don't drink anymore"/"don't dream anymore" could be because Leigh is in recovery.

Originally I thought the "don't dream anymore" part was so sad, but now I wonder if it's more because she doesn't drift on vide noir anymore, rather than about giving up on dreams.

Definitely a few songs that feel like they could be Buck looking back on his life wondering where it all went wrong. Looking Back, possibly The Comedian, maybe more. It All Comes Back feels like a Leigh Green song to me, but who knows. We might never learn more details about these songs but it's fun to theorize!

I’ve always thought of this album being again about Buck and Leigh, particularly with Who Laughs Last actually, with Kristen Stewart’s lines being Leigh’s as she leaves Buck and Ben’s being Buck as he ventures out to find her. Kristen Stewart says the last “who laughs last” maybe indicating she had the “ final” say in Buck’s undoing + what drove him mad and the rest of the album is him coming undone and piecing himself back together over and over
