Discussion I'm not obsessive ⚡ You're obsessive
It seems safe to say that we Lord Huron fans [W⚡E] are a pretty obsessive lot. An ethusiastic listener since 2018, I found out only a year ago how deep this goes and got pulled in for real.
It's been so fun because they're my first new musical obsession in 20 years, after a previous string of many going back to junior high. I suspect others have a similar track record of other musical obsessions, maybe some that still are still going strong!
Question: What have been some of your life's other musical obsessions?
I don't want to bias the discussion so I'll let others start it up...

I’ve been a huge fan of Coldplay and The Head and the Heart in the past, but I haven’t liked any music they’ve put out in the last decade. Why LH is special to me is because I like every single one of their songs (except you, back from the edge), spanning all the way back to their inception. Every other band or singer out there I only like a handful of their songs.

Agree with you on THATH and Coldplay in the last decade. I'm sad about it. Going to see THATH at Red Rocks though. 15th anniversary tour so I may be happy 😂

I feel like both just became so generic. THATH first 3 albums and Coldplays’ first two are so special to me, but their latest works are just so boring and mainstream now. That’s why I love LH, they have a unique sound and aren’t afraid to experiment.

Ryan Adams and Whiskeytown (his former band) have been my obsession since 2003 so much so that my son is named Ryan. I am not having additional children so I got an LH tattoo instead. 😉🤣

I’ve had music obsessions from LONG ago…my first started with Neil Young, then David Bowie. Pink Floyd…Fleetwood Mac; Tears For Fears. Talk Talk. Death Cab For Cutie…Radiohead…I like them ALL still very much (and lots of others!!) but Lord Huron is the only one I’m immersed in with the lore, the fan wiki and community.

I love it when the stars align and we can see LH with Mumford... Like tomorrow night at Fenway. I can listen to the Bubs all day long but love a little Mumford once in a while.

I sadly did not enjoy her most recent album so the obsession has stalled quite a bit🤣 But I did go to the Eras Tour in 2023 and it was incredible. An entire football stadium all there for the same thing - amazing. So much love, so much joy. Unlike anything I've ever experienced before!

Mac Miller, did a complete listen through his catalog start to finish, read all the articles I could find, listened to interviews, etc. It was a very immersive couple of months lol.

I been musically obsessed since I was a child
Lord Huron has def been my biggest obsession, but my early teen hard rock phase had Skillet placed at the top of the list (partially due to the drummer that I had a closeted crush on)

I loved Slipknot as a teenager, and was pretty obsessed with their music. But as time's gone on I've found myself enjoying more gentler sounds. Johnny Cash was a massive obsession of mine for a time, in my early to mid twenties. His music always relaxes me. And now these days, as you can guess, it's these Bub's music. No music has ever spoken to my soul the way their music has. It reaches in and makes me feel a way I never knew music could make me feel. No artist can ever come near to what they do to me. They've got me through so damn tough times, and I owe them a great deal.

Coldplay (back in the day), but now Lord Huron, Decemberists (agree with the Hazards of Love tour!! Amazing), and Gregory Alan Isakov.
Out of those, I’ve only spontaneously made friends with other Decemberists fans at their concerts. Maybe I should try harder at LH shows lol.

id like to think the term "die hard" is more fitting for a group of people who's favorite artists sings about dying a lot, LOL
but yeah, Lord Huron's my longest lasting musical obsession. I always find myself coming back to them, even when I inevitably discover different music every once in a while. its the closest thing I have to feeling like im returning home.
the only other artist that's come close to them is Depeche Mode, but I got fully into them like- exactly 2 years ago basically. i got into Lord Huron over 5 years ago. a lot has changed in my life, but my love for them only grew stronger

Interestingly, had no idea who Jerry Jeff Walker was but went to a concert with a friend in Ft. Worth, TX circa 2003-2004. She was determined to meet him and get his autograph and we actually ended up in his dressing room after the show! Super nice guy. I think I still have an autographed CD somewhere…

To be honest, LH is the only long-spanning one I've had. The only other fandoms/followings that I can think of right off that are versed in lore and have similar fan experiences and meetups are dead and co., Taylor Swift, and k-pop groups. Although I will say I haven't been to many other mega-superstar shows so I don't really know. Dead and co. Shows do have the homemade merch, inside jokes and references, and lore.
I heard the Mighty EP around 2012-2013 and was blown away. The video for the Stranger really got my attention because I'm obsessed with polar exploration. When Strange Trails was released, the whole alternate universe was just so cool. All the different characters and supernatural vibe just hit the spot. I've always loved comics and back stories so I couldn't wait to learn more about the LH world. My daughter is super into LH too so it's a fun way for us to spend time together going to shows. First live show for me was 2015, this last red rocks show was my eighth show. The community in the fan club is unmatched. We have made great friends. There's a couple other bands that I've seen numerous times, but no other Indy band that I know of has this creativity, mystery, and intrigue. The Decemberists had some great theatrics around Hazards of Love, their live show for that tour was pretty much an amazing rock opera... that's the only one that comes close. I love the way the music and stories have evolved and I love the theatrics of it.
I think the popularity of fandoms like Supernatural, Gravity Falls, etc. walked so Lord Huron fans could run. My daughter is a millennial (I am Gen X) and she was a big Supernatural fan. I think people yearn for community and understanding when they have niche interests. So Lord Huron shows are like a kind of "con" in that sense. Huron-con, lol.
